This is the best the system has looked since 2006.

I thought the one thing particularly notable was that 7 of the 10 have been in the system for 2 years or less. It was around that time that they seemed to become willing to spend a little more on prospects, starting with signing Miller to a contract that was well above slot.
Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come from the system.

Why is it that Craig is on the list, and Freese and Greene are not? Can one still be a prospect, and the other two not? Or are Freese and Greene really worse than Joe Kelly?

All scouting services have a cut-off age where you're not longer considered a prospect. Both Freese and Greene are 27 (Freese will be 28 in April). I thought 25 was BA's age, but apparently it's 26.

Thanks for the input, but frankly, that's kind of a stupid way to do it. I would think that some amount of service at the big league level would be a more suitable metric, but perhaps 'age' is just easier.

Could be that, too.

Where's the Lefthanders ?

I didn't go back and read the story, but I thought it mentioned that it had something to do with number of at bats.

It all means very little to me. Kind of meaningless. BA ranked the Cardinals system as one of the best a couple years ago. Trading a few middle relievers and Wallace made it the worst last year. Now that Miller and Cox are in the mix they think it is better again. You never know how good your system is yill after the fact. The rest is just hype. Sounds to me like Cox is a light hitting thors baseman who is likely to end up at second and Miller is one arm injury away from Muldering himself. I also think a teams system is only as good and often judged by its best player. I hope it is a great group of young players but I am not going to get my hopes up. Why isnt Salas on the list? He seems like the most ready to make an impact in 2011.

Geez, who let Negative Nancy in?!

Not to start the great "Anderson Debate" all over again but it is hard for me to take the farm system serious when it can even fill simple, umiportant roles on the major league roster. When it starts doing that I might change my opinion. Untill then it is a hype factory used to get players like Derosa and Holliday.

I think you just described every farm system.

True but I feel like bitching about the Cardinals.
