Because the manager is a hard-head who cannot get away from his guys. Duke has only been a Cardinal for a month and he's had a couple shaky outings, so naturally Bowman pitching his fourth game in five nights is the guy you want in that spot, especially when there's a lefty leading off.

I case you're wondering, Nieuwenhuis has two career home runs against left-handed pitching. In more than 900 plate appearances. Not that it was a 1-run game or anything.
