Re: 9/23 gc

Good news from Queens. Franco hit a 3-run homer in the top of the eighth to put the Phillies ahead, 6-4.

Reyes ties the game with 2-run homer in the ninth.

Re: 9/23 gc

So they both won last night.  It will be a down to the wire situation no doubt. Frustrating because the cards had every chance to pull away.

What happens in a 3way tie.  I know a tie results in a play in game but idk what happens in a 3way tie.

Re: 9/23 gc

From Jayson Stark:

Monday, Oct. 3: Mets at Cardinals. The winner would win the first wild-card spot and host the NL wild-card game on Oct. 5.
Tuesday, Oct. 4: Loser of the Mets-Cardinals game plays the Giants in San Francisco. The winner heads for either New York or St. Louis to play in the wild-card game the next day. The loser heads for the fishing hole, the putting green or possibly both.
Wednesday, Oct. 5: The survivors play in the NL wild-card game. The winner goes on to Chicago to play the Cubs in the NLDS. As for the loser, see above.

Re: 9/23 gc

I'd like to hear Matheny's explanation for putting out his least mobile defensive infield with a groundball pitcher on the mound.

Re: 9/23 gc

How much longer will the Cardinals wait to retaliate for Holliday's broken thumb?

Not all of this is his fault. The Cardinals are playing defense like a slow pitch softball team that's been drinking since 10 a.m.

This was a good game to do that.  A clear lose and the team looked to be playing halfassed.

Re: 9/23 gc

I cannot believe that in this crucial of a game, with a ground ball pitcher on the mound, Mike Matheny started an infield of Peralta, Gyorko, Carpenter and Adams with Wong in left field. That is just insane. More to the point, how does this team continue to play with such an alarming lack of urgency?

Mozeliak has to blow this thing up and if the manager goes, too, so be it. Everything about this team has to be different in 2017.
