Post-season baseball thread

I'll admit, I don't watch non-Cardinals games (I don't watch all of the Cardinals games), but has anyone told this douche from the Mets that he needs a haircut?

Rudy G. would have.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

I'm rooting for the Rangers in the playoffs. They're the only team left that doesn't offend me.
But as long as the Cubs don't win, I'll be good.

If he had pitched that poorly against the Cardinals, they would have tied for the second wild card.
(No, I'm not over it yet. It's going to be awhile.)

Re: Post-season baseball thread

I forgot Carlos Gomez was acquired by the Rangers. Looks like I'll be rooting for the Indians instead.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

Ok, so maybe losing out on Price wasn't the worst thing that could have happened to the Cardinals.

Maybe but the cards would likely have a 90 plus win team with him.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

Smoltz just said Heyward is in the lineup for his defense and the Cubs aren't expecting any offense from him.
Lotta money to pay for a glove.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

Just because we all needed one more reason to hate the Cubs--

I get a call today from a Cubs scout. He learned back in September that the team wasn't going to renew his contract after 13 years with the club. They offered him a severance package, provided he sign a separation agreement and release which he wanted me to review.

Buried in the agreement is a provision that made his separation date the last day of the regular season, and another provision whereby he releases any right to bonuses or perks after his separation date. Yeah, they wanted him to waive his right to a playoff bonus AND his right to receive a ring should the team win the World Series.

The Cubs front office can eat a bag of dicks.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

It would have to be a pretty big severance package to accept, what is now real money and a possible once in a life time chance at a world series ring.  That would be worth a pretty good chunk of change in itself.  Id send them a counter package agreement.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

Yeah, that's pretty crappy, Fors. Hopefully he can work out a better deal.

Adding insult to last night's injury, the winning run was scored by Heyward, who had reached second via a lousy bunt (forcing the runner at second) and a throwing error by Crawford on what should have been the double play.

The first and last time in my life I root for the Giants and they choke like Mama Fucking Cass. Brilliant.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

It's depressing to think the only thing between the Cubs and the end of the Goat Curse is the motherfucking Dodgers.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

I concur Artie. I have no love for the Dodgers whatsoever, but I have far less for Heyward and have no desire to see him get a title.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

I dont hate the cubs and see heyward leaving as a break but it is hard not to root for the epic streak of losing to continue.

I agree we caught a break on J-Hey, but him being a mouthy dude taking less money to roll with the Cubs is an act of sedition if not treason to me.

I may at some point cheer for our rivals up north to end the misery, but it won't be while he's playing for them. There's a lot on their team I do like. Bryant, Arrieta, Rizzo are all pretty great players. I don't even mind Lackey moving, we didn't really give him much choice on staying here.

Heyward? He just bothers me. His hype bothers me, me believing in his hype and praying we'd keep him bothers me, his inability to deliver bothers me. He had a mega deal on the table from us, and it was sheer luck we dodged that bullet, but he's just bad news.

Re: Post-season baseball thread

My objections are three-fold:
1.) I'm already sick of people from different parts of the country who can't name five players on the team, or five players from the entirety of Major League Baseball for that matter, but are jumping on the Cubs' bandwagon because they haven't won in 108 years.
2.) The pre-existing fan base is consistently the most obnoxious and self-absorbed in baseball, and maybe all of American sports, though I'd say Notre Dame football fans are worse when the team is winning.
3.) Aroldis Chapman. He should be in jail anyway for choking and pulling a gun on his girlfriend, and he remains unrepentant about it. Factor in the circumstances of his defection, and it really makes you wonder how much the Ricketts family has to hold their nose in pursuit of a crummy World Series championship.

Oh, and fuck Heyward!
