Artie already knows this story, but it's Christmas, so why not share.
A couple of weeks ago, Chad, another friend and I were out having a few drinks and I was talking about Encarnacion. Chad mentioned that he liked Bautista. He thought he would take a shorter contract and because he had come up as a 3rd baseman could easily transition to 1st base. The more we talked about it, the more excited he got until he finally said, "fuck it, why not, let's see if we can make this happen."
Next thing I know he's texting Molina to see if he knows Bautista. Yadi says they're good friends. Chad asks Yadi if he thinks Bautista would be interested in St. Louis and Yadi responds "I'll find out."
About an hour later, Chad gets another text from Yadi, who had been texting Bautista. Bautista told Yadi he'd love a chance to play in St. Louis and another shot at postseason, but St. Louis hadn't shown any interest. After a couple of texts back and forth with Chad, Yadi says, "we need to make this happen, I'm texting Mo."
About 2 hours later (yeah, we were drinking a while), Chad gets a couple of texts from Yadi. They were screen grabs of the texts with Moz. It went something like.
Yadi- Hey Mo, just wanted to let you know I was talking to Jose Bautista and he says he'd love to come to St. Louis. Just thought I'd pass it along.
Moz- Yadi. Thanks for the information. At this time I don't think it works into our plans, but we'll talk about it internally and keep it in mind should something change.
Long story short, Moz knows Bautista is willing to come to St. Louis, he doesn't care. I suspect you're looking at the 2017 Cardinals.

So the cards are allegedly in on brian dozier.

Twins wanted too much in return ... not cost-effective for us ... dry powder ... we weren't willing to trade our prospects ... we think Kolten Wong will have a breakout year for us ... lower-hanging fruit ... dry powder ... [fill in name of team to which Dozier is traded] offered more than we were willing to offer ... dry powder ... We like our team ... dry powder ... we're waiting to see what happens at the trade deadline ... dry powder ... dry powder ...

Dozier would necessitate the trading on wong. Id be for that. Getting rid of wong and get a middle of the order bat...perfect. false hope but you know, it tis the season.

First, it's really scary to hear stories like the one Fors posted.... I'm used to spitballing about what I'd love to see my team do, but with this Chad character.... BAM let's talk to the Hall of Fame catcher who will immediately ask the GM? And during the same evening, you get an answer from Mozeilak? That's just super weird to me being a "fan" lol. I'll need time to process that. I am not ready for anything I discuss as an armchair quarterback who thinks he knows everything, but really doesn't to actually land in the radar of the GM. If he made the move, I'd want the credit.
Second. Thinking of Bautista in a Cardinals uniform is pretty alien to me, but so was Beltran and Berkman. Bautista is a little bit classless at times, bat flipping, stare downs, and that's always bugged me, course I forgave it for a decade when Pujols did it, so maybe that's something I could be fine with.
Third, he's even open to taking a 1 year contract, so I'm not positive how Bautista doesn't fit with your plans, unless those plans are to not spend any money getting better, and just take it all as profit......

I don't believe for a minute the Cardinals are interested in trading for Dozier, and honestly, I don't know that I'd want to. Dozier really isn't a middle of the order bat--he's spent most of his career hitting lead off. The Twins are trying to sell high after what is likely a career year.
I have a feeling this is nothing more that Moz having someone float a rumor so they can say they kicked the tires, but when Dozier ends up elsewhere they can say they tried but the price was too expensive.

That's funny about Oquendo's side piece. I bet it was Front Row Amy.

How many communicable diseases are in play in that scenario?

I hate HOF talk. It is pointless and cooperstown is so muddied up i dont care who is in or not in.
Pitchers and catchers report in a little over a month. Several interesting players remain available yet Moz remains ignorant. Just because he didnt get what he wanted for xmass doesn't mean he has to fuck the rest of us. There was a reason he didnt receive bow ties and sweater vest.

So glad a guy who's never pitched more than 110 innings in any season as a professional is going to add to his workload before opening day.
Ordinarily, I would have lesser concerns about Carpenter, but then I remember a couple of years ago the Cardinals sent him home for a week to decompress because he's wrapped too tight.

I had very much the same reaction but thought I'd be underscoring my crotchiness if I commented. But I long ago arrived at the opinion that Carpenter needs to place less rather than more.
This underscores how the players and management are much more interested in hauling more money, no matter what the diminution of the product they provide to ticket holders.

My new year's resolution was to become crotchitier. Or more crotchity. Not sure which. Either way, I no longer have interest in seeing players who are under contract to the Cardinals playing for other teams. I was thrilled when Yadi didn't make the All-Star team last year because he's better off resting for those four days.

Ill watch the baseball classic. It is baseball played with some of the top talent in the world. I especially enjoy watching unknown and washed up players trying to hang with the best for a few weeks. It is suprising sometimes that they do so well. It is also interesting to see the Asian brand of baseball match up so well against the american brand. Plus the fact that by that point in itching for real baseball. So much so that i can trick myself into believing that preseason tournament is legitimate baseball.
Having said all that, there is no meaningfull player for the cardinals that i want to participate. Molina needs less work obviously, not more. The concerns with reyes and carp have already been stated. The potential for injury that effect the season is large.
One compliant i heard reported last year was the players were unhappy with st. They felt like they were held back to allow for more energy for the stretch run instead of being geared up for opening day. It will be interesting to see how st is adjusted to fit that complaint and accommodate the WBC. cardinals have the unfortunate advantage of a long restful winter.

Crotchity gives me a lot of trouble too. I finally decided to ignore the spell check and go with the most convenient.

Try listening to someone with a Boston accent say "crotcheter." They sprain their tongue.

I saw that. Second year option with a 500 000 buy out. No brainer imo.

So if wacha and rosenthal are both bridge guys with oh, siegrist and cecil closing out games, i wonder how good this pen can be. I dont think neither rosenthal or wacha are andrew miller but solid 6th/7th guys can really make a starting 5 look good.

Don't get me wrong. Blake seems like a good guy and he had a decent career, but why go through the charade?
