Bears - Packers

This is a heart or head decision.  My history of the futility of being a Chicago sports fan tells me that the Bears offense forgets to show up.  Their first drive leads to a field goal, after which they get nothing from their offense, their subsequent scoring being a Hester return for a TD and an interception return for a TD.  The Pack, meanwhile, rolls on to the Superbowl.

Head: 42-17 Packers

But then there is that evil little voice in my heart that says they can do it.  Cutler will do this, the defense will do that, and intangibles will do the other thing.

Heart: Bears by 3

Re: Bears - Packers

I'm wondering when Bears-Packers became football's greatest rivalry. How can it be a great rivalry when they've played one meaningful game since 1941, a time when pro football was less popular than college football and MLB ruled them all?

Re: Bears - Packers

Did either your heart or head mention Todd Collins at any point in time?

Or Caleb Hanie?

Re: Bears - Packers

What a shitty game.  I think Cutler just pussed out.

Looks like Packers/Steelers super bowl is still in play.

Re: Bears - Packers

Cutler better need knee surgery.  If he quit on his team with anything less, he never becomes the leader of that team.

I just read that he tore a ligament in his knee.

It's not very often that a torn ligament is a good thing, but in this case it may be.

And AP's Green Bay v. Pittsburgh is looking real good.

I'm so sick of reading about Mark Sanchez' playoff record. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl, it doesn't make him a good QB.

By your logic the Cards and Cubs can't have a good rivalry.

They play two games a season, and when both teams are good, like they are now, the last one is almost always meaningful.

Re: Bears - Packers

This was a total throwback to the Bears of my youth.  They hang around close enough to keep your hopes up before ripping your heart out and shoving it down your still breathing throat.

Everything was a sliver lining surrounded by dark cloud.  What a wonderful story that Caleb Hanie made, except for the fact that he threw the game losing interception straight into the hands of 300 pound lineman who had never caught a ball.  And Joe and Troy?  You're a good team, but I am sorry; apologizing for that INT by saying "Hanie just didn't see Raji" is like saying Mohammed Atta "just didn't see" the North Tower.

Re: Bears - Packers

The North Tower didn't have "moves" like Raji.

In all fairness, Raji came about a yard away from becoming the next Leon Lett. I know you don't get to celebrate often, but in the future save it for after you cross the goal line.

If Mike Martz is going to be the OC they need to rebuild the team.  Knox is their only real WR and Hester is a waste of space.  On a key second down Martz called a run that included a fake end around.  He doesnt have the personal to pull those plays off.

They are still trying to push Sanchez as a stud QB for some reason.  For the most part he plays within himself and I respect that about him.  I just wish the broadcasters would admitt his main job this year was not to fuck it up and let the defense win the game.  Just like Trent Dilfer.

I did like seeing Chicago's 3rd stringer play.  I would rather see a bad QB play hard then a good one coast.  I hate all the talk that Big Ben has got but he is alot of fun to watch.

Re: Bears - Packers

It's like the NFL used only one script this weekend. Both games had one team dominate the first half and then try desparately to hold on.

It worked for Green Bay. Let's see how it goes for Pittsburgh.

Re: Bears - Packers

Good call AP.

This should be a fun Super Bowl. I'm not rooting for Rapeliesberger, but if he gets 3 SBs without a loss it takes some of the luster off of Brady and I'm OK with that.

My preference is for Rodgers to win so he can tie Favre. Looks like Green Bay knew what they were doing after all.

Re: Bears - Packers

Rodgers is the real deal.  I like him because he doesnt seem overly gifted.  He isnt a freak like Vick, Huge like Big Ben, known for his mind and pin point passing like Brady or Manning.  He has got guts.

I dont really care who wins the SB as long as it is a good game.  I am sticking with the Steelers as my prediction though.

Re: Bears - Packers

rodgers has a rocket arm and his accuracy is supernatural.  the first incompletion was uncannily tossed about 40 yards through very coverage into just the perfect spot but the receiver let the ball go through his hands.  anything under 20 yards looks like one of those missiles shot along a rope.  i think he has talent galore.

where did you read that?  NFL Yahoo is running a headline, "Move Over Bartman."  That ligament thing better be true or he won't be able to show his face in Chicago for a few years.

To us, it's a great rivalry. To the rest of the country, it's not. The Bears and Packers have rarely been good at the same time. I think the Bears have been to the playoffs what...five times since 1990? And when was the last time they had a memorable game?

I think that's what's at the heart of a great rivalry.  It's not like the Army-Navy game typicallu has much bearing on anything, but if a quirk in the stars led to their meeting in the BCS, I'll bet someone would make mention of the rivalry.

Re: Bears - Packers

TK, I tend to side with Max on this one.  When was the last time the Lions played a meaningful game, yet every Thanksgiving the nation is forced to watch the Lions on a National stage.  Before 2007, Mizzou/KU had probably never played a "meaningful" football game.  It doesn't make the rivalry between the schools any less.

Cutler has a sprained MCL.  I don't think this is going to end well for Cutler

Re: Bears - Packers

It may not end well for Cutler but it will end worst for the Bears.  They have given him a bunch of money to be their QB.  Now the city and team do not believe in him.
