"Comparing himself to Bautista and Donaldson is laughable."
I understood what he meant, but yeah, hit 50 homers or win an MVP before you start throwing those names around.

I think both Wong and Matheny have handled the situation terribly. Wong isn't doing anything at the plate that Molina wasn't doing for his first few seasons -- constantly adjusting stances, constantly changing the approach, constant tinkering, etc.. Molina never took his offensive struggles out to the field and the same can't always be said for Wong. He's an elite defender (even though he makes boneheaded mistakes time to time). However, he needs to stop psychoanalyzing himself all the time. I imagine he's quite the basketcase in the clubhouse and the Leader of Men probably gets annoyed.
However, Matheny needs to be straightened out. The front office mandated more speed and better defense, two qualities which Wong brings to the table. I am a big Gyorko guy. He's an underrated defender and I appreciate the understated way he goes about his business, but he's not at Wong's level defensively and he's a sloth on the bases. If Matheny can't look at his pitching staff and see 3-4 guys who need good defenders behind him, then send him packing already.
If I'm Mozeliak, I tell Wong to shut up and stop tinkering from game to game, then I tell Matheny that Mike Leake wasn't given $80 million to watch seeing-eye singles bounce to the outfield. The same goes for this nonsense of putting Matt Adams in left field. I get as annoyed as anyone else watching Grichuk wave helplessly at balls in the dirt, but at the end of the day, he's going to be an elite left field with more versatility offensively.

"putting Matt Adams in left field."
I haven't been able to watch too much ST action. Has he actually played left field yet, and if he has, how has he looked?

I can't remember if it was yesterday or Monday, but Adams played left field one of those days, caught a fly ball and pumped his fist after making a catch.
That probably isn't a good sign.

Baby steps; baby steps.
I obviously don't follow other teams as closely as I do the Cardinals, but is there another team that tries to jam square pegs into round holes as often as the Cardinals do? I mean, hell, second base has practically been the Island of Misfit Toys for them over the past decade. They even tried Allen Craig there.
Speaking of Allen Craig, the Red Sox are going to pay him $11 million to ride buses in the minor leagues again this year. There's a $1 million buyout on his $13 million option for next year. Hmmm ... which way will the Red Sox go?
And there was an article in today's Boston Globe about Joe Kelly. The Red Sox have finally come to the conclusion he's not a starter and are going to try to use him as an 8th inning setup guy until Tyler Thornburg is healthy.
I was against the Kelly/Craig trade because I thought Kelly had a high ceiling and I didn't like John Lackey's attitude, but in hindsight the Cardinals ended up winning that deal, moreso if Corey Littrell and/or Dylan Carlson end up in the major leagues.

Rosenthal to start season on dl. I find it a little strange. He was pitching normal in spring training.
