I will agree with one thing the announcers said. Grichuk had several good at bats tonight. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

Not to over react but i think grichuk has the potential to be better then piscotty and rival diaz as far as young cardinals who will have an impact in the next few years. He strikes out to much but he hit 24hrs last year at 24 years old. He plays the field above average. Has an arm that is at least average. Good speed. I was disappointed to see him so low in the lineup. One game, i know, i know...id suffle him up the lineup and peralta down.

It's a shame the Cardinals didn't go out and sign a left hander to get out hitters like Schwarber.
Do you think the first words out of Cecil's mouth when he woke up this morning were: "I've made a horrible, horrible mistake?"

I think he laid off more breaking pitches out of the strike zone last night than he did all of last season.

And game 1 is in the books, the Cardinals haven't lost yet, the Cubs haven't won yet, and I already hate Jeff Passan and ESPN for the Cubs gush. Gonna be a long year. I think I could wish the Cubs well a lot more easily if it wasn't for these guys trying to ram them down my throat like some type of Borg assimilation attempt....

I was expecting worse from ESPN last night, and it probably would have been if the game had been at Wrigley. Passan is nothing more than a low-level troll. Ignore him and he'll go away.

I think their needs to be matheny rules put in place. Never ever use the closer for more then 3 outs. There is a time and a place for it but matheny will never get it so just abolish it.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't have a problem with him bringing in Oh for an extended save opportunity with a day off in between, but Oh's effectiveness deteriorates rapidly. Baseball Reference doesn't have this data, but I'm willing to wager that when he was in Asia, Oh's stats were worse after his 15th pitch.
Say what you want about La Russa, but if he got you up in the bullpen, you almost always got into the game. Cecil's arm got used unnecessarily last night, twice, and even though there's a day off between games, there's a cost. I'm a big believer in the notion an arm has only so many pitches in it. Matheny, of course, will never understand that because he's a lunk-headed catcher.

Thats what bernie came up with on the matter. It doesnt change my mind tho. Matheny had other options. Options that the GM provided for him to use against teams like the cubs and batters like schwarber and rizzo. And i believe the selling point to ciecil is that he can get righties out as well. This is what i mean by matheny just need a rule saying no. He failed to take into account the quality of left handed batters oh would face combined with asking an extra inning out of him.
