I don't think it was that many. I seem to remeber they estimated he'd play about 120-125 games. I think it may have been in the 450-475 range which I suppose is almost 500.

I doubt you'd see a healthy platoon. Berkman's number were much better against right handers. It wouldn't make any sense to sit Berkman against RH to give at bats to Edmonds.

If Cardinal Nation didn't know anybody better, it would almost seem like they are bringing in a couple of veterans who can play first base.

IMO Edmonds doesnt platoon.  He simply fills in one in a while for Rasmus.  Mabye for the other two as well if Craig can pick up playing time at third.  I just dont think you can afford not to see if Craig is a major leaguer this season.  Jay, I am convinced is not an impact player.  I think Craig still has a chance to be.

Agreed. It may not even be a true "invite." Strauss was reporting on his Twitter that Edmonds still hasn't passed a physical and was having a lot of problems with the foot that was bothering him at the end of last season. He was speculating that this move could be nothing more than letting Edmonds officially retire as a Cardinal.

FWIW, if that's all it is, I think it's pretty decent of the team to let him do that.

I was wondering the same thing after I read the story.  But of course I will look for the dark cloud to the silver lining, and suspect that it is a PR ploy by Moz to boost his popularity at a critical moment.

I hope he gives a comeback every possible chance that it has; look at this line:

.284/.376/.527 with 393 homers, 1,199 RBIs, 1,949 hits and 998 walks.

How easy would it be to get that to 400+ homers, 1,200+ RBIs, 2,000+ hits and 1000+ walks?

It sounds like there is a risk of permanent injury if he tries to play. The numbers would be nice, but I doubt they are worth limping for the rest of his life.
