My opinion is that pham or diaz would be better options in the 5th spot in the linep instead of molina. Diaz doesnt have impressive obp or ops numbers but they are on par with molina. If the arguement is that molina is better at getting on base the diaz, it isnt true. Really phams numbers trumps both.

I never want molina on base over anyone else on the team. Lilliquist might be more fleet of foot.

i think I agree with all of that except that I wouldn't Pham hitting in a spot where he was expected to go for the long ball too often.

At this point they need to try something.  It may fail, like the rest of the 2017 season.

The whispers that the Cardinals could be buyers make me sick.  The irrational idea that a bandaid is needed is ridiculous.  This team needs major change in direction, starting with matheny.

Matheny is a dead man walking. Unless they somehow manage to win at least five out of the next six games, I don't think he gets on the plane to Phoenix on Sunday. Not all of it is his fault, obviously, but these guys need someone with a different mindset.

I don't have a problem with them being buyers, so long as they're also sellers.  I can't remember where I read it, but I read an article that suggested trading Lynn and Oh (and maybe Rosenthal) for prospects and then using the depth of prospects to get a middle of the order bat like J.D. Martinez.  There's a risk in that Martinez could walk via free agency, but if they could pull off a series of moves like that and re-sign the middle of the order player, that would make sense.

I agree that it would be abundantly stupid for this team to keep Lynn and Oh (and anyone else with value) just to try to scrape into a playoff spot this year (and then lose those guys for nothing at the end of the year).  This team has far too many holes to fix.

VEB had a arcitcal on trading rosenthal, oh and lynn.  Id be less inclined to trade rosenthal since he has a year of control.  They will need a closer in 2018 hopefully.  Pending them having a decent team.  Im not sure if the cardinals have any remaining control of oh.  I didnt think so but hummel made it sound like they did.  Rosenthal wouldn't be off the table by no means tho.

As far as them trading for martinez im not in favor unless resigning him is a lock.  Idk how that could be the case.  All player seem to be dieing to hit the open market.  Id hate to see the cardinals trade away players and get nothing for 2018.

I also think garcia, wong, delong and in ways gyorko and diaz are a repeated commodity.  There is no reason to have all 5.

I don't disagree with you, but the Cardinals need a bat like this and they aren't likely to simply out-bid everyone for a player who reaches free agency.  Their chances go up if the player actually plays for the team, but there's definitely a risk.

Idk why they cant outbid everyone else.  They certainly have the resources.  Also whatever package they give up for Martinez equates to a cost. They will most certainly have to give up cost controled players (more then one).  Also i believe the market is thin this offseason.  Id think that would play against the Cardinals chances of not getting in a bidding war. Didnt work well last time they tried the trade and sign method.  Lastly idk how inclined a player will be to fall in love with st louis given the current circumstances.

They can, but they don't. Moz bag bids what he thinks the player is worth. If someone else bids more, that team over-bid and the Cardinals finish 2nd. It's a common theme.

Heyward showed us that trading for the player does equate to an advantage
