Re: 6 / 25 loss crap

Leake isn't a good enough pitcher to pitch around leadoff walks.

Did you watch the LSU/Oregon State game yesterday? That pitch was a strike all day.

Re: 6 / 25 loss crap

Does anyone hit more fly balls to the warning track than Matt Carpenter?

I did and it benefitted LSU more than OS . But hey Caleb Gilbert ( LSU pitcher) says if he's going to call 'em out there, I'm gonna throw 'em out there . Can't blame him for that .

My exact thoughts. Gilbert was unflinching. The Beavers were rattled.

I know it is unacceptable to say anything positive about Matheny around here but that bunt move is typical of the way things have been for me the past five years.  He makes a move that I think is terrible (or fails to make one that I think he should) and manages to come out smelling like a rose.  The bunt move is not entirely typical because I still think it may have killed a big inning.  So it's not possible to say he made the right move.  But they still came out with a run and eventually a win.

I can't recall ever seeing a coach or manager who knew his players better than Matheny, except maybe Leo Durocher or Don Zimmer.

Post Script:  Or did they come out with a run?  I think I misremembered it.  I'll look it up when I get back from PT -- if I can remember to do so.

Re: 6 / 25 loss crap

"Or did they come out with a run?"

They did, but not in the way Matheny envisioned it. You're giving up an out with a right-handed fastball hitter facing a lefty who throws fastballs to move the slowest runner in the league to third with one out so a player with 27 strikeouts in 80 career major league at bats can drive him in.
Gyorko took Matheny off the hook when he doubled in Molina, but to me that move falls under the "even a broken clock is right twice a day" realm.
