The quote about hurting someone's feelings is absurd, of course, and indicative of the manager's mentality, but the author isn't addressing the problem - that the "big thumper" needs to bat leadoff or he's useless.

Piscotty should have had an RBI on a sac fly in the first inning. How Carpenter could not go to third of Pham's hit is something only he knows for sure.
