The Cubs are eating what's left of his $14 million contract, but that's peanuts to them. While Montero's defense is pitiful, his offense remains better than what you'd get from most backup catchers. The player they're calling up has a .923 OPS in 271 plate appearances, albeit in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. But before this year, his career best OPS was .845 in the rookie league, so maybe he'll crap his pants in the majors. One can only hope.
And, on a related subject, is there anyone outside of Chicago who thinks the Cubs didn't put Arrieta on a steroids program when he got there? Yeesh. It's almost as obvious as the Red Sox putting David Ortiz on the juice.

By Wednesday morning, team leader Anthony Rizzo was firing on Montero, signaling the end of Montero’s Cubs career, if he didn’t already know what was coming because Montero’s Cubs career ended shortly after.
“When you point fingers, you're a selfish player,’’ Rizzo told WMVP-AM 1000. “We have another catcher that throws everyone out.’’
Noting this was the second time Montero was heard “barking’’ in the media, Rizzo offered the simple philosophy that the Cubs “win as 25, lose as 25. To call teammates out? What’s the point?’’
For those of you scoring at home, Rizzo ripped a teammate publicly for ripping a teammate publicly. Your 2017 Cubs, ladies and gentlemen.
