Going by memory, the Reds swung and missed at three of the some-odd 40 pitches Wainwright threw in the first inning. He fooled Votto and Suarez by throwing breaking pitches on 3-1 counts, and he struck out Bailey. That's bad.

He started out as a catcher. He could at least give them emergency catcher protection. I'm trying to recall what I heard about him playing the OF, but can't at the moment.
