Re: Off-season crap

I thought hummels last question and answer write up was okay.  Nothing shocking or concrete.  Just baseball filler.  There is only so many avenues gor baseball news so you have to take what you get.

Re: Off-season crap

Brewers acquired Yelich and Lorenzo Cain which means they now have 5 starting outfielders. That’s an interesting strategy

They're expecting opposing teams to hit a lot of fly balls?
I presume you move Yelich to left and Braun to right, with Cain in center. Where that leaves Santana and Broxton, I don't know. Unless the NL adopts the designated hitter before March 29.

Re: Off-season crap

There are rumors the Brewers are nearing a trade involving Santana to Cleveland for Danny Salazar.

If that happens, the Cardinals are the third best team in the division, and it may be a distant third.

Thats what happens when you sit on your fucking thumbs.

And id trade braun

Re: Off-season crap

The Indians would be crazy to trade Salazar.
And any team that trades for Braun is almost as crazy.

Salazar has great stuff, but he struggles to stay healthy. He’s, at best, Cleveland’s #3, and right now they have 6 starters.

Re: Off-season crap

Santana looks like a real bat.  Id have a hard time letting him go.  Netting a top of the rotation pitcher woulf change my mind.  In one day the brewers have wrnt from nothing to look out.  The cards cant seem to do that in months or even years.

My bad. I got him confused with Carrasco.

I don't think their starting pitching will be as good as last year. Davies, Nelson and Anderson aren't as good as their numbers ended up being last year, and I think there's going to be some regression.

"While personnel and directive contributed to the issues, the Cardinals also had a missing piece who, in Carpenter's assessment, was critical. That would be Jose Oquendo, the team's longtime third-base coach who has been absent the last two seasons. Oquendo is returning to the big league staff this season."

Well, with this I agree. Even at 54-years-old and with a knee replacement, Oquendo is a better baserunner than Carpenter and would be a good option as a pinch-runner for him.

Re: Off-season crap

Finding it hard to feel sorry for mlb free agents and their idea that clubs are conspiring to drive prices down.  Could it be that they are over pricing themselfs?   Almost every player has been offered a fair contract and declined it because they are so used to seeing free agents do so and be overpaided.  They simply are not that good. Especially not when compared to the price vs the cost and performance of league minimum players.  The trade market has shown more talent then the free agent pool.  Thats an adjustment free agents have to make....not clubs.

Re: Off-season crap

I couldn't agree with you more, AP.  Unfortunately, fans have no power to exert any counter pressure when the agents attempt to instigate group activity to drive the costs up.

Pissa. I'm taking a trip to Spring Training this year. First time ever. And I'm going to end up watching a game between guys who are going to be bagging groceries on April 1.

I've always been reluctant to spend money on a game that doesn't count, but it's been so cold here all winter I needed to get away. We're going to the Braves' ballpark in Orlando on March 3, arriving on Thursday night and leaving Sunday afternoon, staying at Disney. It's a father/son trip. Zach is a Star Wars geek and he wants to see the new attractions at Hollywood Studios before he heads off to college in the fall.

Re: Off-season crap

It probably isnt that expensive to see ST games, is it?

I just think it would be neat to see mlb player in such a different setting.  Be able to watch them practice a little.  See some of the minor league players.  More up close and personal experience.  All of that being in on place is what interest me.  I wouldnt mind temps above 30 as well.

It's getting expensive. It's $65 per seat, but we're in the 15th row behind the Cardinals' dugout. If I'm only going to do this once in my life, I'm going to splurge. Compared to the obscene prices were paying for the rest of the weekend at Disney, it's not as bad, though.

Re: Off-season crap

The Mets signed Todd Frazier yesterday. I wonder if that will loosen the log jam. You could put a pretty good team on the field comprised of free agents who are still on the market. The owners have a history of not being able to conceal their collusion very well, and this probably isn't any different.

Re: Off-season crap

Oh was signed by the rangers.  2.5mill with an option for year two at 4.5mill

Frazier probably thought he deserved more but 2 year 17mill is fair gor a .215 hitter.

Yeah, that's a good idea for a pitcher who has a propensity for giving up home runs. Revive your career by going to a home stadium that coughed up more runs than any ballpark that's not a mile above sea level.
