Was it me, or did the outfits seem more, um... secure last night? One of the American girls was practically wearing an ace bandage across her chest.

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but it's hard not to notice the preponderance of Asian figure skaters in the Olympics. I think even one of the Canadian skaters was Asian.

The skater I was referring to is a guy, but your point may still be valid.

Arrieta, lynn and cobb are still out there. Crazy. I dont think their will be low hanging fruit. There is absolutely no reason that any if these guys would stand a better chance in next years market. However it would be interested if any would settle for a short term deal with opt outs. All three would vastly improve the cardinals rotation.

Since the game is focusing more on advance metrics, I’m trying to learn some of them. There’s a pretty good book I’ve been reading and using for purposes of my fantasy baseball draft. The advance metrics suggest avoiding all three. Cobb can’t miss bats. He only had a 7% swinging strike percentage. (10-11 is considered good). Arrietta lost velocity, threw fewer first pitch strikes and his swinging strike percentage dropped from 11 to 9. In Lynn’s case, the metrics say his ERA last season should have been 4.6
I’m not saying I fully understand or buy into all of this stuff, but front offices are using them and I think it’s going to be difficult for these guys to get anything close to what they want.

No doubt there is truth to that. If there wasnt i dont think so many mlb front offices would be avoiding them. As you said tho, they are not worth what they are asking. If that changes (what thry are asking) when do they become worth it. And wether they are an upgrade depends on what you compare them to. Im sure every gm has plugged the numbers in and have their own answers. Imo all 3 would represent an upgrade to the cardinals rotation. Thats the eye ball test tho. They are probably all 3 more reliable then 2 or 3 of the cardinals projected starters. If i was the cardinals gm i doubt my price point would meet the free agencts demands at any time along the way. As a fan i curious how tempted one would be to accept a higher AAV with early opt outs, preferably on a 2 year, maybe 3 year deal.

Do the Cardinals pay their minor leaguers any more/less than other teams? Seems to me this is a players’ union issue.

I assume the same. Like you said, id assume it would be a union issue. The point i thought the article tried to make was that if the cardinals voluntarily paid them more it would some how improve their production. A happy worker is a productive worker theory i suppose. I just thought it was interesting to hear about the finacial aspect of minor league players. Imo the reason the behavior of mlb players isnt as out of line as other sports. Not saying it is perfect. However more mlb players have earned theit spot, paid their dues and are older then the instant millionaires of the nfl and nba.

His preferred type of reptilian cuisine must not be available in this hemisphere.
About the only good thing about yesterday's game was seeing Poncedeleon back on the mound. I watched a little of Friday's game against the Marlins. I'm not sure what the Marlins' new ownership group is trying to accomplish, other than to make a run at the '62 Mets modern record of 120 losses in a season.

Oh, and I don't know if anyone noticed, but the Marlins had Sierra batting leadoff. What a concept. Putting a player with speed at the top of the lineup.

Did they say anything about his launch angle?

No. Your friend Whiskey Dan spent a half-inning interviewing the Marlins' new color commentator, Todd Hollandsworth, about the school shooting in Parkland. Which after a week of being of dejected from reading and hearing about it on the regular news was just what I wanted to listen to during a baseball game.

You're just trying to make me regret missing that broadcast.

I like seeing that motte got back in the mound. 2 hits, a walk, two strike outs ans no runs allowed. That stat line has cardinals closer wrote all over it.

I guess Oh's deal with the rangers fell through. Now he has a 2mill one year deal with the blue jays.

There are, but the Cardinals spent almost $20M for the Lizard King. Uncle Bill isn't going to just cast him aside.
Like it or not, the team they'll be running out there on Opening Day is in camp.
I've heard that the team is struggling to sell tickets at their usual pace. They recently did a one-day online deal during which you could buy tickets for any Monday-Thursday game for $5. I have a feeling there might be a few games, especially in April, for which the announced attendance is below 30,000 (and there will be a lot fewer people actually there). I hope that's the case, because the only way this ownership group gets the message is if the people stop showing up.

You're absolutely right, and Matheny can't afford to show up Mo and Girsch by not using him, although to my mind using hime would be the best way to show them both up.
I continue to be amazed by the way to be a successful businessman is to manipulate perceptions instead of producting quality. Of course producing quality helps but very much secondary.

I wouldnt give up on him completely. I also wouldnt go into the season with waino, wacha and this dude all as serious question marks. They need a reliable proven starter. Martinez isnt there yet.
