I’m not sure that doesn’t make the team better.

Certainly.  Maybe it will pave wainos path to the bullpen.

"However, none of them feel ..."

Though you didn't cite the source, I assume the person who wrote that got paid to write it.
First of all, it's poor form to start a sentence with "however," because "however" is typically used to transition from one phrase to another. Secondly, the noun is "none," is singular. Thus, the proper form of the ensuing verb is "feels."
Sorry. Fussy former newspaper guy is cranky today.

Re: Spring Training Crap

Not trying to push the panic button or anything, but does anyone else remember an Opening Day starter who threw fewer than 10 innings in the Spring and hadn’t pitched in a real game in over 2 weeks prior to Opening Day? Why have most of his throwing sessions been on the “back fields?”

I havent really noticed.  I didnt follow spring real close beside box scores here and there and reading a few articles on subjects i found worth while.  I must have missed that martinez wasnt starting with my spotty attendance.  Who knows the reasoning.  I think i read they shifted a starters regular day because they didnt want the other club getting a read on the pitcher for an early season match up.  Still doesnt explain why he wouldnt be in some of the more meaningful spring games.  Trying to avoid women he infected with the herp or guys he got in bar fights with?

I wasn't being critical of you at all. It was the guy who gets paid to write for a living.
What I really came on today to say is my league is having its fantasy draft right now. I just took Albert Pujols - with the fourth pick in the 29th round.
And I'm pretty sure if I hadn't taken him in the next-to-last round for mostly sentimental reasons, he would have gone undrafted.

We have our draft Saturday (yes, we know it’s after the season starts). It’s an auction draft with 14 teams and no bench. I have him valued at $2, but it isn’t out of the question he goes undrafted.

Brebbia optioned to the minors, Hicks makes the roster.

I hope they’re not rushing a kid so Moz can show off a shiny new toy.

Last time i saw brebbia he had a bad outing.  Im guessing this is going to be a frequent situation.  Hot reliever up, cold reliever down.

Don't get me started on this shit. Fors knows this, but my fantasy league is run by two brothers who think it's their own little fiefdom. They change the rules to suit them, without any input from the rest of the managers in the league. It's a keeper league, and about four years ago I ended up with three ADP first round keepers - Kershaw, Goldschmidt, and Cargo (when Cargo was good). In previous seasons, if you had more than one first round keeper, you got to defer him to the next round. But the brothers abruptly decided you could only keep one first round pick, so I had to give up two of mine (I kept Kershaw).
We used to do the draft on-line on a weekend morning. One of the brothers - the one who is my friend from college - just took a new job with Hertz that requires him to travel extensively. So he's spending a lot of time on airplanes, without access to the internet. The brothers decided to do a "slow draft" this year with no time limit. We started on March 17 and finished early this morning.
Part of it is my own fault because I should have opted out a long time ago, but I know if I do I'll end up losing a friend I've known for 35 years. I'm such a sucker.

Re: Spring Training Crap

I never got into baseball fantasy.  One year i tried but the league i was in seemed to be to much.  It was impossible for me to keep up with the constant roster changes.  Is that still the way they are ran?

For the most part, yes, and that's why I stopped doing them.  But the one I'm in now doesn't require excessive involvement after the draft.  It's a lot of work up to the draft, however, because in an auction format, you have to establish a price range for each player.

In our league, once you draft your team, that's pretty much your team.  If a player gets hurt you can pick up another player while he's on the DL, but otherwise, you get 6 roster moves for the entire season.  And there's no daily lineups to worry about because there's no bench.  Everyone on your roster simply plays every game.  If I had to pay attention to my lineup on a daily basis I wouldn't do it because I don't have the time.

Re: Spring Training Crap

That wouldnt be so bad.  Whwn i tried you could shuffle guys in and out of your starting lineup and start different pitchers.  So the only way to win was pay constant attention to who was starting that particular day and the use of relief pitchers.  I do think there was a limit on how many starts you could have a week by a starting pitcher but even that was tiring because the trick was to play the right match up.  All and all it was miserable.

During yesterday’s broadcast they showed Wainwright throwing a bullpen session and politicking for Thursday’s start. I think Flaherty is back in Memphis by the weekend.

That's what I was thinking also.  But it seems to me that it's just going to be a matter of how many bad starts he's able force them to let him try.

Re: Spring Training Crap

The idea behind waino making one last start at a busch stadium opener isnt out of line to me.  I just think flaherty is up and pitching well.  Waino could use a delayed start to his season.  Also with the rotation the cardinals have i dont see alot of the pitcher throwing 200 innings.  Starting flaherty now and then bringing up waino could push all the starters back a day without sacrificing performance (because of how well flaherty pitched in ST).  I think these situations are ones the club needs to take advantage of this year.

Re: Spring Training Crap

All of this makes sense until you remember who the manager is. As long as Wainwright is healthy, Matheny will send him out there every fifth day.
