Today's game is only available on Facebook.
From the P-D: "It’s part of MLB’s initiative to target its product to young people, but a lot of them figure to be in school on a weekday afternoon in April."
Not only will "young people" be in school, but if you reside with one, you know Facebook has become passé with them. Facebook is for we moldy oldies. Kids use Instagram or Snapchat.
I'm on Facebook, but if I weren't, I think I'd be kind of pissed if I had already paid $189 for the Extra Innings package and couldn't get a game because MLB decides it wants to be relevant with a demographic that thinks watching a baseball game is some sort of punishment, on a platform it doesn't use.

Not only don't they use Facebook, but everyone of them who is interested will find a way to watch it if they really want to. When the games are broadcast on Fox Sports Midwest or Fox Sports 1, you can live stream through the Fox Sports Go app.
Hell, I saw Bob watching Wrestlemania on his phone the other day, and I know he didn't pay for that.

IIRC correctly, the pay-per-view fee for a WWE event is pretty substantial. It's not like Vince McMahon to let a nickel slip through his sticky fingers.

Waino gives up a 425-foot homer to a guy who came into the game batting .059.
Watching a game on FB sucks, BTW.

Have you noticed that it actually shows how many people are watching? Combined with people in the crowd, there are fewer than 70,000 people paying attention to this game.

I have no idea who these announcers are, but I'm guessing they have multiple baseball participation trophies on their mantles.

Why is Wainwright hitting here?

I'm at work and the sound is off. How much worse can they be than Jim Edmonds?

In the P-D story, there's a quote from someone at Fox Sports about the number of eyeballs.

Yeah i guess you can get on reditt and pretty well find any game or ppv event being streamed by someone for free. Never done it because i am to dumb and dont know what reditt even is.
I think it is clever by facebook. They can afford to lose money or risk money. I dont have facebook but if they had meaningful sports events streaming through there id rejoin.

Lol, maybe not so clever

They're spending more time asking people to post comments and photos than they have actually talking about the game. If someone posts a comment, they then read it.
They just spent half an inning talking to Brent Suter about his efforts to save the environment.
It's brutal

I wish I was home because I'd like to see how good the picture quality of the FB feed is on my TV. It looks pretty crisp on my computer, but I'm at work so I'm watching a window that's about 6 inches by 8 inches.
The biggest drawback with Extra Innings used to be they only had two HD channels and if the game you wanted to watch wasn't on one of those two, you were stuck watching standard definition, which was kind of acceptable in 2006 but a dozen years later is Medieval. They fixed it in the middle of last year so now you can get every game in HD, but for whatever reason there's about a 10-second delay between the live action and the feed.

I was wondering if Zuckerberg was going to do the commentary, but I guess he's busy today.

Now they're asking the fans to vote whether Hader should pitch the 9th.
I'm sure Counsel cares about the results of the poll.

Wondering if Holland came with a 30-day warranty.

I think back in the day, Bill Veeck came up with some sort of promotion that involved polling the crowd about what the White Sox' manager's next move ought to be - bunt, steal, hit-and-run, etc. I bet the managers just loved it.

Did they just pimp Ohtani as the AL MVP???
After a dozen games??

Yep. After 12 games, of which he's only played in 7.

Redbirds won again today. Hudson had a solid start but wasn't spectacular.
So far they have only one loss and had some positives.in that game. Poncedeleon pitched 5 shutout innings and Kelly homered.
Mercado is playing outstanding CF, apparently, and stealing a base or two. 3 other outfielders (O'Neill, Garcia, and Arozarena) are all playing well. Schrock (2b acquired in trade for Piscotty) is leading the team in hitting.
They've been playing without Voit, who is on the DL, since April 6. After being HBP twice in the April 5 game, he was pulled but I've not been able to find out anything about how seriously he was injured.

How has Preston Guilmet looked? I thought the Cardinals taking a flier on him was a pretty good idea. He's always had a big arm.

I think you were right.
He seems like the kind of guy that it could be very handy to have as bullpen insurance. He's had 3 appearances snd has yet to give up a run. I think he's allowed very few baserunners either.

Preston Guilmet
Age 30
Nice start

His problem has always been throwing strikes consistently. But if he's on, he's tough to hit.
