AP ...

I mistakenly forwarded you a mass email, so you're probably going to end up getting a series of messages asking you if you're available to play pickup basketball tonight. While you're certainly invited to participate, I'll understand your travel considerations if you don't show.
On the plus side, the email chain among this group usually morphs into a series of insults, so hang in there and you might end up being entertained.

Re: AP ...

Yeah I saw I had an email stating the invitation.  I didnt know how old it was being that I dont check that email much now that we are not on the yahoo board.  I wish this board supported a email system but it doesnt.  Playing alittle basketball doesnt sound like a bad idea.  I havent done it in awhile.  My shift doesnt allow me to play on the normal night.  Plus all the guys I enjoyed playing with are busy with kids and family, as am I.  I miss playing but it seemed that the group I played with enjoyed getting basketball confused with a soap opera.

Re: AP ...

You didn't miss much. Unfortunately, "open gym" means just that and when we arrived there was a contigent of 20-year-olds already there. The problem with playing with kids that age is they think if you pass them the ball, you want them to shoot it. I pretty much spent the first hour jogging up and down the court, and the last half-hour playing goalie.

Yeah I know what you mean.  Even though I am/was in the age of the younger group that played I never liked playing basketball that way.  The guys I liked playing with like playing full court because they wanted to run.  However they still wanted to pass.  The younger crowed liked to cherry pick and fast break every possession.  If you did get all ten guys on one end of the court it normally went; dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, launch a three.  We all got sick of 18 year old kids running around like deer and trying to play the game like they were on a playground in Chicago.  It got to the point that you didnt give them the ball because you knew you or anyone else wouldnt get it back.  As you said, when it is open gym you cant control who plays.  I wish we could had made a rule that to play you had to have kids, a full time job and be 20lb over weight.

That used to be our over-30 league, but the facility where we play had a hard time with defections to a new YMCA, so they opened it up to all age levels. I knew it was over for me last summer when a guy who went to the University of Massachusetts on a basketball scholarship dunked in my teammate's face so badly the guy required facial surgery to remove the ball. My health care plan doesn't cover that shit.
