This is painful to watch.

When I was watching last night, Hrabosky said he couldn’t wait to see Wainwright bring his “ace stuff” back to the mound
He’s still waiting.

Ok, strike one was outside, but if the best Wong could do was turn his back to those last two pitches, he had no business being up there in the first place.

Not to defend Matheny, but right now he's playing with a 23-man roster. I'm not sure Garcia is a better option than Wong in that spot. I suppose the move is to send up Pena, but he's batting .174.

I watched most the game but didnt have internet access. The two things i saw that cost the game was not taking waino out when he had runners on first and second. At that point anyone could tell things were not going to end well. I also would have pinch hit garcia for kelly in the 9th. Kelly hasnt hit shit. However matheny cant break the righty vs lefty rule.

After reading, this my first question was "Why did they start him in the first place?" followed by "Why did he come off the DL in the first place?"
There's a difference between pain and injury. Pitching through pain is something every pitcher deals with. Trying to pitch through an injury isn't courageous. It's stupid.

I saw the stories about Wainwright being re-injured circulating last night and said the same thing. I get it--Wainwright isn't going to retire and walk away from $19M, but he needs to simply accept going on the DL the rest of the season and let a better pitcher take his spot in the rotation.

As much as it pains me to say, the NL may as well just go ahead and adopt the DH. The games are borderline unwatchable anyway. The DH isn't going to make it that much worse. Plus, with all the talk about teams going to 6-man rotations and 13 man pitching staffs, it makes it easier to deal with the short bench. That, and they could go ahead and expand the roster to 26 men.

The only role I see for him is being the human white flag; an innings eater in games where the Cardinals are hopelessly behind. Whether he's worthy of a roster spot on a team that's only lost four out of 38 games by five runs or more and/or rather than a right-handed hitter with more power than Carlos Martinez is probably a pointless discussion. Just make Wainwright the 14th pitcher on the 25-man, go with a backup catcher, a utility infielder, a utility outfielder, and make Luke Weaver a courtesy runner on days he's not pitching.

Au contraire, mon frere. I watched most of the Blue Jays/Red Sox game with my dad yesterday. American League baseball is awful. It took Pomeranz 100 pitches to get 12 outs. It's not even baseball. The manager of an American League team can nap in the dugout until it's time to change the starting pitcher. And Matheny wouldn't be able to double switch anymore. So there's that.

I will not watch baseball games if a dh is involved. If the nl adopts the dh i cant see watching half the games i do now. The best thing the cardinals can do to make games more watchable is find a new manager.

While watching his lastest debacle i was wondering if waino could be useful out of the pen. I want to say yes but im afraid getting a grip on his curve in a single inning would be impossible. Dfa is the solution.

In other teams news, Robinson Cano could have a problem :

“Cano has issued a statement through the MLBPA (Twitter link) in which he says the “substance was given to [him] by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment.”
Seems legit .

If I knew how to do one of Don's trophy thingies, I'd give one to this post.

They'd probably have to eat $14 million-$15 million at this point. I'm not sure how insurance works, but if they DL him, they probably get some kind of reimbursement.

I'm sure it's all a misunderstanding.
