It's pretty obvious that Mabry is only on the team because he reads bible verses with Matheny.  Again, I've never been one to think that the coaches mean that much to the overall success of the team, so it really doesn't bother me, but in this case, I think they could actually upgrade.

Ive never been in a major league clubhouse but i would think coaches would have more influance then you give them credit for.  Oquendo has seem to transform this team over night. 

My guess is a coach doesnt have much to do when things are rolling.  When the whole infield is fielding like clones of Omar vazquel there isnt a lot of instruction needed.  Same with hitters if id assume.  When guys are raking you just sit back in your rocking chair and draw a pay check.  However when 2 starters are hitting .150 im sure they are searching.  If the hitting coach cant help them im sure that doesnt help much at all.  Or even worst, if the hitting coach is giving the wrong advice it is going to prolong the slump.  Even bad asvice, that you know is bad advice gets in your head when things are going bad.
