Flats vs. Quintana

Watching tonight. Have a good feeling about it.

Speaking of bad announcing, i'm, not sure how many of you were awake at 7 a.m. to watch Costa Rica vs. Serbia match, but there was a pretty nasty exchange between pxp guy Derek Rae and color commentator Aly Wagner.
Rae, who is Scottish, was the lead soccer announcer for the BBC and then he moved to the U.S. to work for ESPN. ESPN lost the Premier League soccer contract to NBC and he was basically out of a gig. He became the pxp announcer for the New England Revolution in MLS. He's a miserable, condescending person to begin with, and beating the bushes in a fourth or fifth tier league in America of all places has made him insufferable.
Anyway, Fox hired him to cover the World Cup and he's been paired with Wagner, who is a former member of the U.S. Women's national team and actually a pretty good analyst. They were assigned the aforementioned Serbia/Costa Rica game this morning, which featured this repartie:
Rae: "In both of their qualifying matches, Costa Rica defeated the USA, which to their great embarrassment is not here in Russia."
Wagner: "When was the last time Scotland played in the World Cup again?"
Rae: "1998."
There was about 15 seconds of silence after that. You could practically sense the broadcast booth icing over, like a Dementor from a Harry Potter novel had just shown up.

Does anybody know what the hell is going on in the game?

This chain of events will be hard on a young pitcher.

Why is gyorko at second and csrp at third?

Is it too much to ask the the Cardinals to acquire a first baseman who can catch the ball?

They claim it is because Gyorko has better range.

Isnt 3rd a higher defensive priority?

Pham and ARod had a bro hug, Flats plunked future Hall of Famer Javier Baez on the elbow, and Baez sat on the ground for what seemed liked 10 minutes. Then Matt Vasgersian called Maddon a "mad scientist" when he sent Addison Russell in to pinch run for Baez.
That's about all I have so far.

A dead gopher has more range than Carpenter.

Thanks. I got all that up close and personal shit with Pham. But I couldn’t figure out anything else.

I dont see the high value of defense at second.
Edit: i mean id give up second base defense for a better third baseman.
Also imo, carp is better at second and gyorko is better at third. It is, imo, a upgrade a both positions.

Yes, ARod, when I think of Tony La Russa's teams in St. Louis, their "great speed" comes to mind.

The Cardinals continue to play just well enough to stay in contention.
