UPDATE: Mark Sheldon of MLB.com spoke to Gomes, who attempted to clarify what he feels is a misrepresented situation and said: “From the bottom of my heart, I would never wish anyone an injury.â€
"and if I had thought for one moment that a Waino voodoo doll and a blow torch would actually work . . . "

Somebody in the Cincy FO got to Gomes and told him here's what you really said .(so later on this year , Motte has to "explain", "oh, that one just got away ". (wink)

The Reds are handling this with the class and dignity I've come to expect from that organization.

I am going to disagree again, Artie. WJ is a classy guy, as is Rolen, and maybe Votto and other principals there. If DeWitt's Cards fumble their responsibility to Cardinal Nation, the Reds loom large as a likely landing ground for those of us who will depart.

I must have missed the minute Votto exhibited class. I've only seen him bitch at umpires every time they have the temerity to call a strike when he's at the plate, stand at the plate watch his home runs leave the yard and insult players from other teams at the first All-Star game for which he was ever chosen.
I used to think your habit of disagreeing with certain people on this board for the sake of disagreement was partly my own perception, but after reading this, I'm convinced it's an actual trait.
If you want to pull for a team with Jonny Gomes, Brandon Phillips and Johnny Cueto and managed by Dusty Baker that acts like they invented baseball and plays in front of a bunch of backwater hicks in the most notoriously racist city in any state with a name that doesn't end in the letter "a," you enjoy yourself.

I think my habit is to speak my mind and agree or disagree with an opinion, based upon my opinion, and the person who offered the original opinion doesn't matter a hoot.
The Reds are moving in the right direction, they are far from perfect.

Not all of Ohio. Cleveland sucks, but it's not populated by a bunch of racist white trash. What other city in the country would consider an exhibit of fiberglass pig statues to be the height of artistic culture? Until about 10 years ago, part of Cincinnati's recognition of Christmas involved letting the Ku Klux Klan raise a cross in the city center. Then they had the cops arrest anyone who tried to mess with it.

"The Reds are moving in the right direction, they are far from perfect."
The judges also would have accepted "diametrically opposed to" in the stead "far from."
This is a team that has no problem employing a pitcher who was wearing spikes when he kicked a player from another team in the head with such frequency that the player who was kicked had to retire. And some of the people who root for that team defended him.
I'm not sure there's been enough illumination about how kicking another player with metal on the bottom of your feet is one of the most egregious offenses a baseball player can commit. It's not just a breach of baseball protocol, it's an obliteration of baseball protocol. Punch him in the head, call his mother a whore, hock a loogy in his eye, but for pete's sake don't kick him in the head when you're wearing spikes.
I probably loathed last year's Reds more than I've loathed any team since the Detroit Pistons of the late '80s. The Reds may have won the NL Central title last season, but please don't suggest they won it with class.

The only team I want to see moving in the right direction is the Cardinals, unfortunately we're struggling at the moment .
