7/8 GC

Speed at the top of the lineup. What a novel concept.

Matheny's ability to run a bullpen amazes me.

Hopefully, he won't pitch in this shenanigan. I'm glad the Cardinals were otherwise skunked, but it leads to the theory that if the Cardinals only got one player and the Reds had three, then the Reds have more talent than the Cardinals. Therefore, if the Cardinals are ahead of the Reds in the standings, the Cardinals' manager is getting more out of his roster than the Reds' manager. Which leads one to the conclusion the Cardinals have a better manager than the Reds. Which is one of the myriad reasons the All-Star game is meaningless.
I'm especially glad Yadi didn't make it. Let him go home and rest on a beach for four days.

Modern baseball--where a guy hitting just over .250 is listed among the leading "snubs" for the All-Star game.

Hey, he's leading the National League in leadoff home runs ...

Oh, and I voted for the kid from the Brewers. 25 times. I hope he's in the HR contest and sprains his fat.

His stats are close to Contreras' but his war is below his by 2 point i believe.  Curious how much of that difference is fielding.  And yes i agree....glad he is resting

Molina isn't out of the woods yet.  Posey's out with an injury.

I cant say how badly this team needs a fire sale.

I'll try:

Outfield - No way I move Bader. He gives you speed, defense and effort. Maybe you'll never build a team around him, but he's the type of player you need on a winning team. He reminds me a little bit of Darin Erstad.
I'm not even close to giving up on Ozuna.
They'd sell Pham now at 25 cents on the dollar from this time last season. He's still cheap, productive when he gets hot and speedy. Keep him until the end of the season and then let him go. He'll win an arbitration award of which he's not nearly worthy.
Obviously, Fowler is the great conundrum. If the report that he and Matheny haven't spoken for months is true, then they should have gotten rid of Matheny yesterday. But that's another thread. In order to get Fowler off their hands, they'd likely have to agree to pay a chunk of his salary and throw in a young arm. Get used to being the fourth outfielder, Dex, because absent Moz pulling off the Jedi Mind Trick on another general manager, you're practically immovable at this point.

Infield - Wong has roughly $17 million in guaranteed money left and that makes him nearly impossible to move, unless of course the Cardinals pay almost all of it (see above reference to: Fowler, Dexter). Again, this is another discussion, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a team misread a player as badly as the Cardinals have misread Wong. They should have made him the leadoff hitter from day one and left him alone. I almost feel cheated, because he's never going to become the player he should have become.
I'd sell Martinez to the first AL team that calls. Maybe put them on hold for about 90 seconds just to be coy, and jump at whatever they offer. Maybe send him to the A's and put one over on Billy Beane. Why not? Everyone else has.
I'll keep my thoughts about Carpenter brief. This may the best time they'll ever get again to sell, even though that will break poor Dan McLaughlin's heart.
I'm conflicted about DeJong. He's a better fielder than he was billed, he hits home runs and he seems like a decent presence in the clubhouse. But he strikes out. A ton. He's played almost exactly a full season now and he's struck out 188 times. But his power might intrigue another team.
I'm souring on Gyorko a bit. He seems to be streakier this year than he's been. His value lies in his ability to turn on a fastball and his versatility. I think he'd fetch a decent return from a team which is looking for a package of experienced players that includes a bat off the bench.
Two months ago, I would have told you I would have been fine without seeing Munoz in a St. Louis uniform again. But the kid is intriguing. He's got some pop in his bat, a little bit of speed and he can play different positions. I don't know if he's ever going be a 500 AB guy, but since he's 23-years-old, they might be inclined to give him a chance.
Garcia has no value to another team.

Catcher - Obviously, Molina is going nowhere at $20 million a year for two more years. If they can trick someone into taking Pena before the non-waiver trade deadline and then call up Kelly and play him for the last month when they're out of contention and/or Molina gets hurt again, that would be ideal. But I think I'm better off waiting for the Easter Bunny to give me a new Porsche than counting on that scenario.

Starting pitchers - I'm not sure you can or want to make a move with any of these guys, except for Mikolas. In fact, it might be the time to sell him high. He's only got a year and a half left on an inexpensive contract.
I've almost given up hope that Martinez going to become that #1 guy in the rotation. He just doesn't seem to have the personality to become a great pitcher. But if another team inquired about him, I'd ask for a king's fortune.
They could have sold Wacha high until he got hurt.
I'd keep Gant and Weaver simply because they're young arms. Flaherty is really the only SP who is absolutely untouchable. That kid is going to be a star.

Bullpen - Everyone but Hicks is available. The only other guy they'll get calls about is Norris. He might be the most likely guy to be moved between now and the end of the month.

Re: 7/8 GC

I agree with all of that with a few exceptions.

Wong - i think you may be able to give him away.  Youd get little or nothing in return but i think with his defense and potential upside in change of scenery a team may take his contract.  No disadvantage for the cards imo.  He is wasting away in stl.  And munez is an interesting option in the lineup.  Not that im in the business of saving the cards money but i think they are wasting it by paying wong for little return

Gyorko - i see him as having value.  Also could save money is unloaded and likely gain a meaningful prospect.

Ozuna - they didnt give much up for him and could likely grt similar in return.  I see it as a chance to undo the trade.  I dont see him as a difference maker this year or next.

Martinez - he seems to be seen by the media as having value.  Id trade him without a doubt.

Pham - id listen.  Id consider.  And id really want to hear something that made me pull the trigger.

Folwer - fuck him.  Id pay his contract to play elsewhere

Oniell - if he is grichuk 2.0 as fors think id trade him.  Maybe he can impress in stl for a while if pham or ozuna was moved and raise his value.

Wacha - once he pitches well again you sell him.  This year, next year, whenever.  Get a return.

Mikolas - they could see so high

Martinez - im tired of him.  You could get a shitton for him.  Do it.

Weaver - id sell him to.  He just doesnt have it.

Bullpen i agree on.  Everyone but hicks.
