Flats vs. Lester
Final: Cubs 7, Cardinals 1.
Flats hangs in there for four innings, but leaves after five due to a high pitch count and the Cubs clobber the Cardinals' bullpen. The Cardinals do nothing with Lester, as usual. Carpenter hits a solo homer in the top of the eighth to negate the shutout.

"The Cardinals do nothing with Lester, as usual."
I assume this sentence cost me my "wizard" status.

You may have to make an adjustment .
But it’s early .

Lester is a jerk.

Carp is seeing the ball today....

It looked like today was aimed at decision making. Bowman, Cecil, Gregorson, and Holland are probably each on the bubble. I don't think either Bowman or Cecil helped their case for remaining in St. Louis. Bowman may finish the season in Memphis or Springfield but I'm afraid Cecil is going to be a very wealthy talking head soon.

I think you’re now at Neville Longbottom status.

I realize it is a common name but the Cards have a guy named Grudzielalanek playing in their farm system out of the University of Memphis. Does anyone know if he is related to Mark?
Addendum: I just found out hat he's a nephew. And he's with the Blue Jays, nott the Cards.

In a game in which they were ahead by 15 runs, the pitchers used to mop-up are costing the team $26M.
The 4 relievers who didn’t pitch cost them about $5M
I’m not foolish enough to think the Cardinals will be in the running for Machado or Harper, but in just Wainwright and Holland they have $34M off that comes off the books that provided absolutely nothing this season. The small market excuse doesn’t work any more.

The "Witless Wonder?" Oh no.
Though he did have a talent for herbology.

I wonder if anyone would take holland...either for a midlevel prospect or salary dump.
I also think they are missing a great chance to capitalize on mikolas if they dont trade him.

I’m not sure I’d be so quick to move Mikolas. I’m not saying Cot’s is infallible, but if that website is correct, the Cardinals have 5 years of control over Mikolas. He has this season and next under contract, but then 3 seasons of arbitration eligibility before he’s a free agent. Granted, his arbitration numbers will be higher than normal since he’s already making $7M, but a quality pitcher for 5 seasons has a lot of value. Not to mention that with the rest of the staff potentially being kids, a veteran member of the staff would be useful as well.

I thought it was a 2 year contract.

It is, but he only has a little over 1 year of service time in the major leagues. You have to have 6 years to reach free agency. At the end of the 2 years he’s arbitration eligible for the next 3 seasons.

That does change my opinion
