Re: Urban Meyer

I’ll try to provide a cliff notes version

- Asst. Coach gets arrested for violating a protective order involving his ex wife. Media discovers abuse allegations from 2009 (When Meyer and the assistant were in Florida) and 2015 when they were at Ohio State.

- Asst. Coach is fired.

- Day after Asst. Coach is fired, at Big 10 media day, Meyer is asked about the abuse allegations. He acknowledges hearing about the 2009 incident which he sluffs off as a young volatile couple in need of counseling. He denies knowledge of the 2015 incident and claims the media is making it up.

- Yesterday, a Former ESPN reporter releases text messages between the abuse victim and Meyer’s wife and another assistant coach’s wife. The texts include pictures of the 2015 assault and discussion between the wives about the abuse. Meyer’s wife texts “Urban doesn’t know what to think of this” or something like that, indicating Meyer is aware of the abuse. The other wife also mentions that Meyer knows.

- Meyer, as a Title IX mandatory reporter, has a legal and contractual obligation to report abuse involving anyone affiliated with the university.

- Meyer is placed on paid leave pending an investigation.

- Today, Meyer releases a statement claiming he was aware of the 2015 abuse (that he denied knowing about last week) and that he wasn’t prepared for the question when it was asked last week. He now claims he reported it to his boss. Doesn’t offer any explanation why the assistant wasn’t disciplined.

- Asst. Coach does interview with ESPN denying the abuse. Claims that he spoke to Meyer about the allegation and there was no discipline because the allegations weren’t true.

- Former ESPN reporter releases additional texts between the assistant coach and his now ex-wife in which she mentions 2 different times he picked her up by her throat. Asst. Coach responds with a text in which he acknowledges doing it and apologizes to her.

Re: Urban Meyer

Not defending meyer but reporting a friend is not easy.  And as you well know abused one day, in love the next.  Then the whistle-blower looks like the bad guy.  Having been in similar situations and having to do the "right" thing ill say from personal experience....it sucks.

It isn’t a question of whether it was easy. Under Title IX he’s legally obligated to do it. Title IX issues have brought down a lot of coaches.
