The vultures start to circle ...

A couple of discrepancies here, starting with the author's statement that trading Carpenter would open up cap space, to Carpenter saying it's not up to him if he's traded when he's a 10/5 guy.

Re: The vultures start to circle ...

Nice find, Artie.  Amazing this is all coming so quickly.  You'd think people actually read our little discussion board.

This is a continuation of the discussion going on in the "First injury of the year" thread: "If the Cardinals were smart they would hold onto one of the only pitchers they really have left and then go out and look for another pitcher to bring aboard in replacement of the injured Wainwright."  It is easy for us to say that the "smart" move is to spend more money THIS year, rather than pulling up stakes and thinking about NEXT year.  I would love to pile on, and criticize the Cards ownership for being too risk averse, but I'm in the middle if several other discussions at the moment.

The title has a question mark behind it.  It is just normal filler talk.  The Cards wont give up this early.  I dont know if TLR would ever just give up.  There are to many tickets to sell for DeWitt to give up.  If the Cards move anyone it wouldnt be till the trading deadline.  If they are far enough behind at that point they would be stupid not to listen.

Ugh, it just hit me - Wainwright, Carpenter, & Pujols will all be going in separate directions next year. The 2000s really are fading away fast, as Darth correctly pointed out earlier.

Wonder what the neighbors are going to think when they see half a dozen Albertson's jugs in the recycle bin every week?

We never know, but it sure looks like it might be the case.

So if that turns out to be the end of an era, what was the beginning?  Trading for Edmonds?
