With Bob gone, I now have grass cutting responsibility. Last week I cut the front yard on Saturday, planning to do the back Sunday, but it rained. I made sure to cut the back yard this weekend since it had been 2 weeks, but it’s hotter than hades here today (heat index is 107), so I’m not cutting the front. Michele blew a gasket.

First off, let me say I’m one of those people who couldn’t care less what his yard looks like. Our lawn is nothing but a mass of weeds anyway. I said, I could alternate cutting the front or back each weekend. She wants me to hire a kid to cut it, but the kid she wants me to hire wants $50 to cut it and I’m not paying $200/month to have my grass cut. Her solution, have him do it every other week. 🤔

How exactly is cutting the whole yard every other week different from me cutting the front one weekend and the back the other? (Other than the fact that one wat costs me $100 and the other is my idea)

I hate mowing the lawn. The only thing I hate worse is paying someone to mow it. Zach is awful at it. His only objective was to get it over as quickly as he could. He'd miss sections and leave clumps of clippings all over the yard. The best part is it drives my next door neighbor nuts. He told me if his boys had mowed the lawn the way Zach does when they were teenagers, he would have grounded them. I wanted to respond that's why his kids only ever visit him on Thanksgiving and Christmas, but that would be cruel.

The grass clippings is one of the things she bitches about. I’m not cleaning up grass clippings. On the other hand, I do trim the edges, and she never does. That’s actually one of the reasons I don’t cut the whole lawn the same day is the batteries on the trimmer don’t seem to last long enough to do both.

At the end of the day, it’s grass. If it all died tomorrow, I wouldn’t lose any sleep about it.

I really enjoy yard and garden work so im probably not one to ask. I probably mow every 5 days with all the rain this summer.

How long does it take for you to mow? Push mower or a rider?

Push mower. No one's yard is big enough here to warrant a ride-on. It would be like using a stick of dynamite to kill an ant. It takes me about 45 minutes. It takes Zach 20.

Push mower. No one's yard is big enough here to warrant a ride-on. It would be like using a stick of dynamite to kill an ant. It takes me about 45 minutes. It takes Zach 20.

Buy a cheap rider if you hate it that much.  It would be a better investment then paying someone 200 bucks.  I think i paid that for the first rider i bought.

Either that or shop around.  With a yard you can push mow in 20 minutes, around here you could hire it out to someone who would come in with a big zero turn and do it for 25 or 30 bucks.

It takes me an hour to an hour and a half to mow.  That includes spraying and blowing the walk and drive off.  I probably push mow for 20 to 30 minutes depending on if i want to go around everything or dink around circiling it with the rider.

This is the first year my garden has done great.  Idk how many quarts of beans and salsa my wife put up.  A bunch.  Pickles to.  Ripped the tomatoes out today.  Tired of picking them.  Still got cucumbers, okra, peppers and green beans in the garden.  I just enjoy being outside and having something productive to do.

Just do the edges.  Like around landscape, drive and sidewalks.  It beats running a weedeater.

Re: 8/26

It takes about 2 hours with a push mower to do the front and back, plus trimming and cleaning up the dog poop in the back yard. Our yard isn’t big enough, or level enough for a rider. We have a walkout basement. I’ve got probably a 45 degree slope from front to back.

Other than Mikolas’ glitch in the 5th inning Friday, the Cardinals have received some pretty amazing starting pitching this weekend.

Like I said, it’s 2 hours total. The front is probably 45 minutes to cut and 15 to trim. The back is probably 30 minutes to cut, 20 minutes to pick up the dog shit and 10 to trim.

It was a lot easier when all I had to do was say, “Bob, make sure to cut the grass.”

Adopt a 12 year old.  Seems like the only logical solution.

For sure.  And looking ahead with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati at home...11 is obtainable.

That might be a bit more expensive than $200/month
