Liz vs. Musgrove

The Cardinals announced that Wainwright is staying in the rotation and will pitch Sunday against the Dodgers instead of Mikolas.
Makes sense. Why would you want your best pitcher starting against the team chasing you for a playoff spot?

A few more runs would be nice.

More than a few now.

Assuming we hold on to win, the magic number is down to 15. 😁

Getting a cushion on the dodgers.

Cards have really benefited from the strike zone tonight.

I was as unhappy with the decision to use Wainwright in the rotation as anyone. But I’m now convinced that getting the innings is worth risk. Especially with the number of pitches Mikolas has thrown tonight.

I was going to call it a night until Weaver was brought in to pitch the ninth.

It’s really sad how far he’s fallen. From one of their more promising starters to mop up guy in an 11-1 game.
And a bad mop-up guy at that.

It's 11-4 and climbing.

Right after I read Fors' post I saw the 6th and figured Mikolas' night was over. The fact he was brought out for the seventh, in conjunction with this announcement, impressed me that there is consistent thinking across games as opposed to what used to seem (accurately or not) like random, seat-of-the-pants decision-making. I'm wary of starting Waino but can appreciate that he can contribute if only by eating innings without causing disasters.

Well they cant opperate on a 4 man rotstion of
Gant
Flats
Mikolas
Gomber
Ross would be the 5th i assume it not for waino. I suppose they feel like ross is more valuable out of the bullpen. Also that poncedeleon has prove he isnt any better at this stage in his career then waino.

I would start Poncedeleon over Wainwright. It appears they're going to use a 6 man rotation when off-days don't allow them to use only 5

I didnt know he was starting today. Idk that a 6 man rotation is a bad idea. Even if waino isnt going to be quality maybe starting him will allow the other starters to go deeper in games, having more rest. Everyone looks gassed. Starters, bullpen...

I get what you're saying, and don't disagree that they're probably gassed. But if they don't qualify for the playoffs, everyone is going to get an extended amount of rest fairly quickly.
The offense better come to play when Wainwright pitches.

Ross seemed to offer a steady response. Im not fan of waino throwing in competitive ballgames but he is a easy guy to get behind.
