Even Longball Leone can't cough up a 5-run lead with one swing.
And we think the Cardinals' bullpen has problems.

Re: 9/18

One would think if the schools receive so much support from the folks at Missouri Lottery, they would at least take the time to construct a grammatically-proper sentence.

Once again I have the Atlanta broadcast.

Ohmygod Mayers. Would you just throw fucking strikes? No one in the history of the game has ever hit a 7-run homer.

When I went back and listened for the quote, it turned out the sentence is correct.
"One hundred percent of the proceeds goes to schools, teachers and students ..."
Sorry, Missouri Lottery people. I was wrong.

Re: 9/18

This has nothing to do with the Cardinals, but it’s too funny not to share

My daughter’s high school softball team had a game this afternoon. The team they played had a girl who is leading the St. Louis area in HRs. My daughter plays CF, and is an exceptional defensive player

First inning, the girl on the other team hits a bomb to left center. Madison takes off tracking it thinking she can catch it because all season she’s caught everything hit between left-center and right-center. She’s running full speed, puts her glove up and runs smack into the fence. Mind you, the softball field is actually the baseball field with a temporary fence, so there’s no warning track. Fortunately, the fence is padded, so she hits it at a dead sprint, bounces off, does a backward roll and comes back to her feet just in time to watch the ball land about 20 feet behind the fence.

All of the other parent were concerned whether she hurt herself, but my wife and I were laughing so hard I had tears.

Next time up, the girl hit another HR. Madison stopped short of the fence that time. 3rd time up, the coach went to the mound and told our pitcher to walk her. Instead of wasting 4 pitches, our pitcher put the first one in her ribs.

I'm surprised that kid didn't run through the fence.
What was the other team's reaction when their big hitter got plunked? I'm guessing there were some suggestions in their dugout your coach told your pitcher to dust their batter.

Actually, it was pretty low key. Our pitcher doesn’t throw hard enough to hurt anyone.

Re: 9/18

Interesting discussion on the Rockies' broadcast. Their argument is if Colorado's offensive players get downgraded for awards and Hall of Fame consideration because they put up Coors Field numbers, then Kyle Freeland ought to get more play for the Cy Young Award this year because he pitches in Coors Field.
Speaking of offense, Blackman just hit a long home run off Kershaw that would have been out of any park, including Yellowstone. Rockies lead, 2-1, going into the bottom of the fifth.

Wonder if there's ever been a bench-clearing brawl in a high school girls softball game.

I went to bed.  The mop up men in the bullpen are a good buzz kill.  Think of weaver pitching with a whateverthefuck lead and completely taking the crowd out of it.

11am start time.  Ill be able to watch before work as long as im a good boy and get all my chores done.

Im not a fan of taking into consideration the coors field effect in any decision but free agent signings.

Dodgers won in extras.  Cardinals now with a 1.5 game lead on the Rockies

The Rockies really have themselves to blame for this one. In the fifth, Barnes walked when Freeland didn't get a couple of close calls (maybe all that complaining the Dodgers do does have an impact) and then Kershaw literally dropped a bunt six inches in front of the plate. But Iannetta couldn't get a grip on the ball and had to settle for throwing out Kershaw at first base instead of what would have been an easy double play. Taylor followed with a slow roller up the third base line. Arenado should have put the ball in his pocket, but he tried to get cute and flipped the ball to the shortstop covering third to try to get Barnes rounding the bag. The ball went about 30 feet up the line and Barnes scored.
Of course, there's no way of knowing if the game would have ended 2-1, and the Dodgers gave the Rockies a gift run in the third inning, but if the Rockies end up getting squeezed out of the WC by one game, this might be the one they look back on with regret.
