Got to bed earlier and up sooner. It was a pleasant box score to wake up to. Going to be rooting for matt holliday this post season.

Good point. Nice to see him having a career year.

From the Chicago Tribune:
"There's no team that can beat us and they know that, that's why they run their mouth a lot, because they know we're the best," Baez said before the extra-inning, win-or-go-home wild-card playoff.

Has Maddon whined yet? I haven't checked. They ran for Rizzo back in the 8th; wonder if there's any second-guessing about that today. It's fun to hate on the Cubs.

I listened to Cubs Radio on the Sirius XM this morning and the two moves they questioned were pinch-running for Rizzo and pinch-hitting for Lester.
This wasn't sourced, and the timing seems way too coincidental, but the radio hosts referenced a rift between Maddon and the equally-peculiar and self-aggrandizing Theo Epstein. Maddon is entering the last year of his contract.
And it's fun to hate the Cubs because they're so loathsome. I'm not sure how many people saw this angle because it may have been shown only on the alternate broadcast on ESPN2 with Eduardo Perez and the two sabremetricians (which was nevertheless more tolerable than the version with Alex Rodriguez on ESPN regular), but when Desmond tried to advance from first to second on the fly ball to left field, Baez started celebrating and dancing while Bryant's throw was still in the air. And Contreras' antics are ridiculous. I think if my batting average since the All-Star break was under .200, I'd probably do all I can to make people not notice me, instead of pumping my fist and jumping around like a kangaroo after I draw a walk or my pitcher ends an inning with a strikeout.

Russell gets 40 games
I channel-flipped between the Yankees/A's and Bruins/Capitals. I'm not sure what was worse, watching the Caps hoist their banner and then proceed to thump the Bruins by a touchdown, or watching the most obnoxious fans in baseball celebrate a win. The only good thing about a Red Sox/Yankees playoff series is one of them has to lose.

I wont watch it much. 5hrs of boring baseball that i have no rooting interest in. I do think the series is pretty well the world series. I dont see anyone beating either team in 7.

The Astros may have something to say about that.

Joe Kelly seems to have found his stride...again...at the best possible time.

It also doesn't bother me that sale made Machado look like a chump on the final pitch.

One of my friends hates Joe Kelly, and four years later is still giving me shit like I was the one who taught him how to pitch. So I was glad to see him pitch well in this series.

Almost makes me wish I had been watching.

This is my aforementioned friend's post on FB this morning:
"This NEVAH gets old. Nevah. EVAH. What makes this such a memorable series is that Manny Machado stunk out the joint and probably cost himself a ton of money. To which I say GOOD! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy,"
I didn't get into it on FB because I'm tired of fighting battles on social media, but I'll never understand why there always has to be some degree of schadenfreude involved when a Boston team wins a championship. Does this happen in other cities? Or are Red Sox fans the only people on the planet who would ever buy t-shirts that read "Yankees suck" on the front and "Jeter swallows" on the back?

I always contended that cubs hate for the cardinals was far greater then the cardinals fans hate for the cubs. This was especially true for most of the 2000s when they cubs were not good.
