Sort of like hiring Faust as your morale officer.Do the Royals have an 8th grade affiliate?
Yes. Unfortunately, that's the team they put on the field last season.

Why the hell do they always want sloppy seconds.

Per NBC Sports, the Braves sign for Josh Donaldson for 1-year, $23 million, and Brian McCann for 1-year, $2 million.

NBC Sports also reporting the Cardinals, Phillies and Mets are interested in Andrew Miller. Guess which one of the three won't be signing him.

I wasnt on board with signing donaldson. It isnt a big deal yo miss on him. I will say that 1 year 23 million would of been very tempting.

Donaldson would have been better than anyone the Cardinals are likely to acquire, and he didn’t cost the Braves anything but money.

Im starting to like the idea of grienke. If they are just going to be cock teases with the idea if adding a big bat, maybe defense and pitching is a better idea. It plays better at busch.

I wasn't aware the Cardinals are interested in Greinke. He's 35 and is owed nearly $100 million over the next three years. Sounds like someone who will end up with the Yankees.

Are you forgetting the notion that if a member of the DeWitt family finds a nickel, he buries it underground like a squirrel storing nuts for the winter?

I doubt they are. I doubt they are truely interested in anyone.

They put a bid in....does that make you happy?

I think DeWitt should have gone with his first instinct and relegated the blue unis to history, but he can't help himself if there's a buck to be made off merchandising, eh?

Agree. This business of trying spend money just to keep the fans coming in the gates and buying memorabilia is very disappointing and cynical.
In contrast to Fors, I'm really glad that didn't bite on Donelson but I suspect they will have some signings that will not be any better. I guess they just don't have the confidence in the Cardinal fans to follow the approach of the Cubs or the Astros. Maybe they don't have the scouting personnel to make it work.

You also have to be a bottom 5 team for about 5 years.

It's an interesting dilemma. Would you rather have the team your root for suck for half a decade if it meant winning a World Series, or would you rather have a team that's competitive every year but not necessarily of championship caliber?
The more experience I've attained as a fan, I think I'd opt for the latter. I'm not sure I could keep following a team that's out of the pennant race by Memorial Day five years in a row (though I seem, for whatever reasons, to unable to discard my affinity for the Raiders, despite their utter haplessness for much of the past two decades, with no improvement in sight).
And the people here know how I've come around on the notion of the playoffs being, as Billy Beane says, a crapshoot. I know the team with the best record has won the World Series two of the past three years, but there's still some randomness to the post-season.

The other problem with the 5 years of sucking plan is there’s no guarantee. There are plenty of teams in MLB who have sucked longer than 5 years and they just continue to be bad.
And as much as Mags wants to believe that a team can win without spending money or without seeking outside assistance, neither the Cubs nor Houston win a World Series without making moves. The Cubs don’t win without Lester, Arietta and Zobrist. Houston doesn’t win without Verlander, Gurriel, McCann, and Reddick

I for one think the cards are far above average in developing young pitching. That cant be said for hitting at the major league level. I think the park has something to do with that.

So cardinals were in on donaldson. They are rumored to be in the market for a right handed first baseman.
Does that mean the switch hitting fowler is cemented in right field to add balance to the lineup?

I guess they could trade and still sign harper. That would be an all in move. I doubt they could extend goldschmidt if they sign harper. And i true dont think stl is big city enough for harper.

Everything I’ve been reading suggests Harper isn’t a nightlife, big-city sort of guy. Apparently he’s married and spends most of his time away from the ballpark with his wife. Go figure.
That said, I still don’t think there’s a chance in hell the Cardinals sign him.

There is more then the party scene to the big city atmosphere. Id assume endorsement deals are much more plentiful.

I almost think it's the other way around, I remember Matheny doing some TV commercials for a St. Louis car dealer. That doesn't happen here. When John Farrell was the manager of the Red Sox, he had a memorably bush league radio spot for some kind of over-55 resort near Cape Cod, but the players don't get commercials. The sports celebrity you see on the most TV commercials here is Peyton Manning.

Talking out my ass but id assume the likelihood of getting national endorsements would increase if a player is on a large market team. Sure harper could do a 1,000 little gigs in stl. Hopefully he isnt like matheny and bankrupted himself.
