They should just change the name of the team to the St. Louis Carpenters.

Idk where they plan to play him for 3 more years. I dont look for him to be the best option as a combination of movable infield parts.
I thought they had adequate replacements for him at 3rd and/or short stop in the next few years.

Carpenter’s extension runs thru 2021. They don’t have anyone likely to be here before that. Their best 3B prospect is only 18.
If you’re thinking of having DeJong move to 3B at some point, they don’t have a legitimate SS prospect in the system. The kid they drafted in the 1st round a couple of years ago has been a complete flop.

Maybe i assumed. I know it seems like every prospect i hear about is a third baseman.

Three of their top 5 prospects are 3rd basemen, but they're all really young. The oldest is 20 and the other 2 are both 18.
Just read that the extension was $37M. Carpenter gets $18.5M in 2020 and 2021. I've never been a huge Carpenter fan, but that isn't a bad deal. They're almost paying that much to Fouler
Artie, you're going to hate to read this, but with this extension, Carpenter has a pretty good chance to retire a Cardinal. And I'd say it's almost a certainty that he'll be wearing one of those red jackets as a member of the Cardinals Hall of Fame.

They should have traded him last summer when ESPN was touting him as one of the best players in the league.

He's actually fairly popular here in town. That's why this really doesn't surprise me.

Cardinals hall of fame is going to consist of any long term member of the the cardinals.

I get what you're saying, but Carpenter has arguably been the best player on the team the last 3-4 years. He isn't a lead off hitter, and his insistence of hitting lead off is maddening, but he's been on several all-star teams and he's finished in the top 10 in MVP voting a couple of times. He's been a pretty good player.

I agree completely, but Perez did go 4 for 4 last night.

Baby steps.
Perez is still young, so maybe there’s hope. But he’s also a kid who tested positive for PEDs before the draft and appears to have needed the help because so far he’s shown zero power.

He’s actually in his fourth season counting his first, which was a very short one. But he’s only made it to Peoria.
He went 1 for 4 today.
