The should be in the Spring Training thread, but as long as I'm here, is Carpenter hurt? I don't think I've seen his name in a box score for a few days. Munoz led off and played third today.

Yes.  Although, if you take Whiskey Dan at his word, it isn't anything serious.

My mistake. It’s been a while since there were multiple threads with new info. I ended up in the wrong one.

Yes, Carpenter is having issues with his back. It’s only supposed to be an issue for a few days. Probably menstrual cramps.

He looked it too.  A couple of times the Cardinal defense reminded me of my Little League days.  Ozuna made that big guy Cincinnati had in left field in the late 90's early 2000's look like Jim Piersall on one ball that went for only a double, thanks to Bader.

Adam Dunn.

A blessing in disguise, since I never open posts in that thread when I'm recording a game to watch later.

Ya know, most versions of Midol are similar to other over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol, Advil and Aleve. You can get a generic version at about 50-60 percent off the brand name. But most consumers are idiots and will believe just about anything they read or hear in the way of advertising.

So what will all this save? Eight to ten minutes per game? People aren't going to come back if you shave a few minutes off the clock. The sport has survived Ty Cobb, two world wars, the Black Sox, Charlie Finley, a work stoppage that resulted in the cancellation of a World Series, George Steinbrenner, John Rocker and Erik Bedard. Please stop trying to turn it into the NBA.

The 3 batter minimum is interesting to me. Idk if it is interesting in a good or bad way yet.

I think it's one of those things the managers will complain about - Maddon is already grousing - but they're adjust pretty quickly and after a couple of months, almost no one will care. It does seem to make the Loogy an endangered species, so I'm kind of resigning myself at this point that I'm never going to make it to the major leagues.

I agree nobody will care.  Rule changes happen in almost every sport and life goes on.  So you cant use a position player to pitch unless down by more then 6 runs.  When has that been a huge issue?  Carrying 26 players wont change how the game is played.  Having only 28 players in September will change things to a degree but the parade of minor league players that used to get a cup of coffee in the big leagues during September will soon be forgotten.

Im whole heartedly against the dh but other then that i am open to a lot of the changes that have been talked about.  I can see the advantages to outlawing shifts and the game being played in a more traditional manner.  I dont think a pitch clock would be distracting. Starting extra innings with a runner on base might make things more interesting.  I wouldnt even be opposed to a computerized strike zone.  There would still be an umpire behind the plate.  The strike zone would just be accurate.  I dont think any of those changes will increase the amount of young viewers but they all could make baseball more watchable.

Yes.  I only saw him on t.v. (even though he played in the Southern Association right before his big crack-up), but he made some of the most spectacular catches I've ever seen.  One was a diving catch going into the bullpen wall in Fenway in a mid-fifties all star game.  I'm pretty sure he broke some ribs making one of those catches.

I don't think he hated TLR so much as he, like Charles Barkley, just shot from the hip all of the time (with Harry egging him on).  When Ms. LaRussa and her coven got on his case, he indulged that "horny broads" comment on the Royoko show that got him and Harry canned.  But he was pissing off the wives before TLR arrived on the scene.  He almost drove Don Kessinger's wife to violence.

He's kind of a legend in Boston. I think he's even in the Red Sox Hall of Fame.
I tried to watch "Fear Strikes Out," but watching Anthony Perkins try to play baseball was painful. He makes William Bendix look like … well, Babe Ruth.

Of all of the baseball movies, those were two of the worst casting jobs.  I think movie execs.had this mentality that they could take somebody they thought had certain qualities and sell him as a star in whatever role that came along.  Perkins was as victim of that mentality.  In addition to Fear Strikes Out, be sure to catch him as a basketball star in Tall Story and a fast gun, tough sheriff (after a little OJT) in a Western called The Tin Star.  In the latter, Henry Fonda is o.k.  Neville Brand and Lee Van Cleef are excellent.  In the former, he is not only a basketball star but a stud who can meet Jane Fonda's sexual needs.

They seemed to be moving in the right direction for Perkins with On The Beach and nailed it with Pyscho.

Re: Potential Rule Changes Being Discussed

Watching Tim Robbins trying to throw a baseball without herniating himself in "Bull Durham" was difficult.
When Tom Berenger swings a bat in "Major League," looks like he's hacking wheat with a sickle.
Some of the players in "Eight Men Out" - particularly Michael Rooker and John Cusack - look like they had never picked up a baseball until the day the movie started shooting. D.B. Sweeney pulled it off though, apparently, he's a right-handed hitter who was athletic enough to hit left-handed for the movie.
Some of the baseball in Billy Crystal's 61* is pretty bad. Not as bad as the acting, though.

It was irresponsible of me to say "of all of the baseball movies"  I've not seen any of them that came out after about 1975.  Bang the Drum Slowly was probably the latest that I have seen.

"When Tom Berenger swings a bat in "Major League," looks like he's hacking wheat with a sickle."

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone as unathletic looking as Tom Berenger in Major League.

There's an internet GIF that's gone viral of a blind kid attempting to play football.  That kid is exponentially more athletic than Berenger, and he doesn't do anything but run around in circles hoping to run into something.

Edited--found the GIF

There was a recent incident here in St. Louis that highlights how stupid some of this stuff has become.

Back in the 80's, there were a couple of local news anchors named Don Marsh and Karen Foss.  Marsh worked for KTVI and Foss for KSDK. Despite working for rival news stations they undoubtedly knew each other, probably pretty well.

Fast forward to 2019.  Marsh is working for a local A.M. radio station that probably has 100 listeners.  He's 80 years old. Foss is 75 and retired.  Marsh invites Foss to be a guest on his radio show and she accepts.  When she arrives in studio, Marsh tells Foss she "looks nice."  Mind you, these people have known each other for almost 40 years.

Foss isn't offended, and viewed the comment as a compliment.  But a female producer of the show complained to HR that Marsh had made an "appalling sexual comment."  The station manager and HR called Marsh in to discuss the incident. When they explained why he was there, he basically told them that he was insulted that the station took the complaint seriously, told them to go fuck themselves and resigned.

My guess, the producer is a 325 pound man-hating "feminist" who has never been, and never will be complimented by anyone, but has somehow convinced herself that she's "healthy at any size" and is perfectly happy so long as her 12 cats like her.
