This should be interesting to see how it develops. It is either a clear-cut case of police getting ambushed and shot up trying to make an arrest and the neighborhood is made of hooligans, or else there is some deeper going on.

LEO being killed in the line of duty are going up. Some blame the economy for producing more violent times and causing departments to cut back on training because of budget reasons.

We had that scary story about 1-2 hours south of here where a guy walked into a donut store and shot 4-5 police officers dead as they drank coffee. There are people out there targeting police officers, and that is pretty scary for a civil society.

The US marshall shot in the head died.
that's sad.
one thing that gets me a bit glenn beck-style weepy is when you see the show of solidarity at an officer's funeral.
within weeks of moving back to the states some wacko with gun started killing people, including a sherriff's deputy sent to investigate the weird guy running through backyards with a gun. the day of her funeral, this little twin city of 35,000 people was swamped with officers from all over the state and even some Canadian Mounties. I happened to notice them all at a sports bar, enjoying a drink--in uniform--after the ceremony. But that aside, it was a very impressive show of brotherhood, or sisterhood in this case, as the fallen deputy was a woman.
