Re: 8/5 GC

So, when I look back on the season after the Cardinals fail to make the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, I'll remember the month of July fondly when the team was playing exciting baseball - stealing bases, playing good defense and making things happen. Then all their good players came back and the season went to shit.

Be sure that when you look back on the season you also remember that after failing to make a trade at the deadline, in particular something to improve the rotation, Moz’s response to the media was “You forget we still have Michael Wacha.”

Re: 8/5 GC

So Ozuna misses, what, three weeks after breaking his fingers diving back into a first base on a pickoff? The first time he tries to steal a base after coming off the IL, he slides headfirst into second. What a cementhead.

What an asshole.

Is it me, or does Joc Pederson resemble Spaulding Smails from the "Caddyshack" movie?

Re: 8/5 GC

Let this sink in—Bader got sent to the minors for hitting 20 points less than the team’s leadoff hitter’s current average.

Re: 8/5 GC

Carpenter is 1 for 8 since his return, which is better than the numbers he posted during his rehab.

All sarcasm and cynicism aside, why not move Gant to the rotation? He was actually pretty decent there last year. Running Wacha out there is a joke.

It might not be a bad move. As a reliever, Gant is on fumes. He's given up runs in each of his last four appearances.
If I never see Wacha start another game for the Cardinals, I'll be very happy.

But he's looked really, really good in the batting cage.

It is a white flag.  Almost any option is more promising.  Then you throw in the erratic results of the younger rotation members and you have the worst cardinals rotation since the 90s.  At least wainwright is consistently slightly below average.

If this rotation was to be a legitimate playoff rotation flats would be a 3 or 4 pitcher and hudson would be a 4 or 5 pitcher.  The question that wont get solved is how to find 2 or 3 realistic options for the top of the rotation.  You cant go into 2020 with the pipe dream that flats will be a 20 game winner.  Martinez is a waste of time as a starter.  This teams ace is the fucking bullpen and it is bound to be completely gassed soon.

Re: 8/5 GC

Remember when the minor leagues existed for the benefit of the parent club?

Randy Arozarena is currently hitting .376 in just over 200 plate appearances in Memphis.  He's a speedy outfielder who plays decent defense.

I realize you'd have to add him to the 40 man roster (god forbid they lose Aldelberto Mejia or Drew Robinson), and it might mean sitting someone like Dexter Fouler, but maybe, just maybe, a guy hitting almost .400 could help an offensively challenged team.

But what difference would it make?  We don't need speed and batting average at the top of the batting order.  We have Matt Carpenter.

Re: 8/5 GC

Consider the source, but the Dodgers announcers last night engaged in a rather lengthy commentary about Carpenter's apparent loss of bat speed.

They got to trade him this offseason.

Who is going to want to take on that contract?

If Moz hadn't stepped on his dick and signed Carpenter to an extension, he'd be a free agent with an option year.

Moz dick probably looks like a welcome mat as many times as he has stepped on it.

If Moz's dick is big enough for him to step on it, he ought to be working in pornography, not baseball.

Re: 8/5 GC

The Adelberto Mejia era has ended.  Junior Fernandez called up from Memphis.

Fernandez pitched the game we went to at Memphis.  He reminded me of Tim Robbins' character in Bull Durham.  He throws hard (high 90's, touching 100), and he retired the first 2 batters, but threw 2 pitches to the backstop.  Then he hit a batter and gave up an RBI double before getting the 3rd out.
