Cardinals acquired Tony Cingrani from the Dodgers for Gyorko.
Cingrani is on the 60 day DL and will not pitch in 2019.

So they shed gyorkos salary in the years to come.

But can he play third every now and then?

He’s a free agent after this year. So is Cingrani.
This is your big move Cardinals Nation.

I find it hard to believe the cards couldnt improve over wacha returning to the rotation.

"Per Goold, the club wasn’t willing to give up outfielders Tyler O’Neill or Harrison Bader to rent Zack Wheeler down the stretch, as the Mets demanded. Neither were the Cards amenable to parting with top prospects Dylan Carlson and/or Nolan Gorman in order to pry loose a quality hurler with 2020 contract control, such as Robbie Rayor Mike Minor."

Two months of Wheeler doesn't interest me no matter who the Mets were asking for.
I would have liked to see them acquire Ray or Minor, but I have no idea how good the prospects they're talking about are. Carlson is supposed to be the real deal. Gorman seems to be highly-regarded, but they're 20 and 19, respectively, so who knows if these guys are going to be major leaguers.

Everyone is valuing prospects but i look at all these prospects that have been untouchable in trade talks and how many have not been major league level talent.

Understood, but you're the GM who gives up John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander or Jeff Bagwell for Larry Andersen, you hear about it for the rest of your life (even though the Tigers don't win the division in '87 without Alexander and Andersen had the best 15-game stretch of his career with the Red Sox in '90).

BenFred nails it …
And direct your attention to the third or fourth Tweet down about the Cardinals overvaluing their young players and prospects more than any team in MLB history.

The gist is the Cardinals care more about next year than they do about this year, just like they did last year, and the year before, and the year before that. There's a quote from Freddie Freeman about the Braves' clubhouse being invigorated by the moves the Atlanta front office while Moz was basically being Billy Crystal in "The Princess Bride" by telling the Cardinals' clubhouse to have fun storming the castle.

Which confirms what Chad told me last night. No one will say anything publicly because to do so sounds like you’re criticizing a teammate, but quietly there’s a lot of pissed off folks in the clubhouse.

If they keep wanting to take a flyer on these lefties, why not add tyler lyons who was just released by the pirates. He was shit in the majors but thats a small sample. In the minors her has been solid.
