Maybe it’s because I really want the trade to be a success, but even though his average has only picked up a few points, Goldschmidt seems like a much more dangerous hitter since the All-Star Break.

I'm just going by what I see and have no statistical evidence to back me up here, but he seems to feast on bad pitching and left-handed pitching. He has trouble with right-handed pitchers who can throw a cutter or a slider.
That's the reason he's not a streaky hitter. He'll go 4-for-5 one night and then 0-for-4 the next night.
