Lohse

Another good outing today.
And Ryan Freeze hit a homer.

you diss on on lohse the way you complain i diss on people like moz.  lohse pitched well in 2008.  did what he was supposed to do in 2009 until he was hit by a pitch and suffered a freak injury that either effectively ended his career or, hopefully, caused him to suck for a couple until he got better again.

barring permanent injury, or some new problem, lohse has the potential to be very helpful for the cards this year, and with all of the other problems we've been having, i don't really understand why all card fans are not really pulling for this guy to heal up and pitch well.

Re: Lohse

Craig and Carpenter are both have awesome springs.  I hope Craig doesnt getted cheated this season and I wonder what impact Carpenter can have on the major league club this year.  If freese went down to injury would he be a better everyday fit at third then Craig.

i like jeff gordon's suggestion to get real about berkman now.  if he's healthy enough to be the opening day starter, to justify the signing, fine.  but after that use him sparingly, keeping his bat ready for key pinch hit opportunities.  otherwise, like hummel predicted, he simply won't be with the Cards by the end of the season.  This would, of course, give Craig lots of opportunities.  But it also seems to be the case that LaRussa like Jay.

I've defended Lohse and acknowledged that his problems were related to a freak injury, but that doesn't mean I'm about to get my hopes up that he's fine now.

Re: Lohse

I also don't blame Lohse for the contract. Hey, if the team is going to knee-jerk offer you $41 million before the season is up, you'd be crazy not to take it.

IMO there are at least two times to pull your team's cap tight upon your head, summon your inner 8-year old, and get one's hope: spring training, and the stretch run in late August and early September.  Not to be offensive, but you are the worst kind of sport's fan if you cannot do that.  (wink)

Re: Lohse

McClellan gave up his usual early run, then held the Braves scoreless for the next three.
If McClellan is going to be a starter this year, Duncan should use the Jedi mind trick on him and tell him at the beginning of the game that it's already the second inning.

Re: Lohse

In case anyone is keeping track, the Cardinals' LOBs in their games this week have been 9, 9, 8, 13, 6, 9. Kind of a disturbing trend.

Re: Lohse

Now McClellan is someone I'm going to be irrationally excited about. 1) I like his stuff 2) Duncan seems to be a big believer in him 3) After watching Braden Looper become a serviceable starter, I'm not putting anything past Duncan

Kind of gives you an idea of how bad Cement-head was.

If you could get McClellan to believe that he had all ready gave up a run before the game started and were able to pull him out before he gave up a late inning back breaking home run I could see him becoming a shutout pitcher.

I'd be willing to do a bet this year on which pitcher puts up better numbers a starter, Lohse or McClellan, but you'd first have to pay up for the 2009 bet.

Re: Lohse

Someone is going to have to step up.  If Loshe Westbrook and McCellan can pitch over their heads the Cardinals might be all right.  They all need to pitch like number 3 pitchers.

Re: Lohse

Miller and Salas have an ERA of zero and Carpenter has to have a nice hitting streak going.  Even if it is spring those are some goodthings.  Maybe I should stop being such a sourass.

And that is not entirely unrealistic.  But to succeed, our hope also must be that Carp does not pitch like a #3 pitcher.

Six innings. One hit. Very nice indeed.
