It does. The Cardinals face Strasburg, Corbin and Scherzer over the next three days, and Wrigley Field will be a cauldron this weekend. Rizzo sprained his ankle yesterday, but I suspect he'll be back considering what's at stake. The Diamondbacks play Miami and San Diego, so they might still have a shot at the WC when the Cardinals get to town.

Its disappointing because what they needed to do was attainable.  When you run these game to the final innings and depend on clutch hitting and a lock down bullpen nightly, your going to lose some heartbreakers.

Main concern to me is some of the guys in the pen that the team has leaned on are failing.  This team is dependent on gant, martinez and gallegos.

Are you suggesting that Rizzo might play hurt as opposed to Martinez who had 8 innings to take an IV to muster up the strength to pitch an inning?

Martinez apparently spent Saturday night in a hospital with "respiratory issues," which if it's true and the team isn't covering for him puts his absence in a different realm.

Re: 9/15 GC

From the Chicago Tribune:
The Cubs’ record-setting offense will be without Anthony Rizzo for at least a week and likely longer, as an MRI on Monday revealed that the first baseman has a lateral right ankle sprain and will need to wear a boot for five to seven days.
Rizzo won’t need surgery and wasn’t ruled out for the season. He will be re-evaluated after the boot is removed, with a return date to be determined then, but that appears to be a long shot given the period of immobilization.

Re: 9/15 GC

Dont wish injury upon an opponent but cubs offense should manageable with them playing without their two best players.
