So Edman bails out Carpenter by throwing out a runner at home after Carpenter's error.
Put Carpenter back on the bench where he belongs.

And then Edman hits a home run.

Seriously, what are you going to do with Carpenter? He's not going to play first, and even if he wasn't useless everywhere else, you're not going to make room for a .224 hitter. And he's untradeable because the Cardinals still owe him $55 million over the next three years. Brilliant signing, Moz.

Yeah thats a huge mistake and im not sure anyone saw a need for the signing when it happened. The only option is to pay him to play someplace else at this point. Maybe hope you get a halfway recent prospect in return.
The other option is play him in 2020 and hope for a rebound like has happened to fowler.

Anyone else think this game is going to end 2-1?
Me neither.

When I wrote this, I thought the Nashnils were going to be the team that scored the additional runs.

Miller almost makes you pine for Brett Cecil. Almost.

Wong has 23 SB this year. The last 3 seasons, most of which was under Matheny, he had 21 SBs.
And as I’m typing this he gets picked off

My fingertips started blistering when I wrote that.

Time to own up: When the Cardinals signed Wainwright, I thought they were wasting a roster spot for the sake of nostalgia. Wainwright has won 13 games, has an ERA under 4.00 and probably deserves to start Game 3 of the NLDS.

Thank you, Reds and Padres.

I think a preseason or midseason pitching upgrade would of been highly appropriate but waino has been much better then i expected and has stepped it up lately. Maybe there will be post season magic.

I think most people felt that. Fact is, Wainwright has pitched better than he has in 4 seasons. Give some credit to Schildt (and I supposed Maddux) for managing his workload. With the exception of one, 8 inning start against the Cubs back in June, he hasn't thrown more than 109 pitches or 7 innings in a single game.
Completely agree on Game 3 (if they're lucky enough to get that far). I'd pitch Wainwright him before I'd pitch Mikolas.

I think both (Waino and Mikolas) have dramatic home/road splits. Eschewing the concerns about getting there first and undoubtedly jinxing the team, I would probably go with Flaherty and Hudson in Atlanta, and then Waino in Game 3 in St. Louis, and then evaluating from there. If you're up in the series, you can go with Mikolas in Game 4. If you're down, you can go with Flats, and you still have Hudson available for Game 5.
The only way Wacha pitches in the post-season is if the Cardinals are getting killed early in a game. He probably doesn't even make the roster for the LDS.

Yeah wacha should probably be off of all playoff rosters. They have others who can eat innings and actually provide other use if need be.
