Wacha vs. Mills

Savvy pitching by Wacha - walk Rizzo to open the game so he has to hop around on that bad ankle and then induce a double play line drive from Castellanos.

It takes so much courage to kiss the general manager's ass while you know he's listening.

Yeah, if the Cardinals can find a way to win one of the next two, they probably not only end the Cubs, but probably also Maddon’s tenure as a Cub.

Would be nice if the Pirates could show a pulse this weekend.

I don't expect any help from the Pirates this weekend.

Yeah, I read that yesterday. With his intellect, he's bound to find somewhere else to manage and work his magic.

Exactly. Every out is a like a small victory. MLBN showed a graphic that he's got the fifth lowest ERA in the league since the AS break. It's hard to believe because he's so tenuous. He got three double plays in the first three innings today. He's like the old horse they used to trot out at what passed for the county fair here. They'd run the horse out for about 15 seconds or so all the city kids could ooh and aah and then he'd get the horse back in the corral as quickly as possible before he took a big dump.

Wachas second half stats are somewhat respectable through rose colored glasses. His era and whip are fine for a back of the rotation pitcher. Innings pitched are not horrible i guess, an average of over 5.
We all know the eye test is a fail. We all know he is often removed from games early because things are about to unravel. Shildt has done a good job of using him to his best degree. However, Wacha is a bullpen strain.

Good work by the Pirates last night. Good to see Clint Hurdle has his team giving an honest effort.

That reminds me of a reply I considered to Artie's post about where Maddon could end up if he and the Cubs part ways...
