Standings after first weekend
1. AP 41 pts (32-16)
2. TK 40 pts (32-16)
2. Max 40 pts (31-17)
2. Artie 40 pts (32-16)
5. Fors 38 pts (30-18)
AP is in first place, but has the fewest maximum potential points. Only AP (Purdue) and Artie (K State) have had one of their Final Four teams eliminated.
Fors has lost three of his final eight, but still has all his Final Four picks alive.
Still anyone's ballgame, folks.

I probably watched more college basketball this past weekend than I had in the past 10 years combined. I'm surprised how awful it is. The only players I saw who can make consistently from beyond 15 feet are Pullen and the kid from UConn who the color commentator was making out to be the second coming of Ray Allen.
Just about all the offense comes on dunks and free throws. And it's not just the shots, it's the shot selection that's troubling. The Hansbrough kid from Notre Dame has no conscience.
And Syracuse was getting killed last night because they couldn't even be bothered to run back down the court. That's one of the reasons I hate zone defenses. They make you play so passively.

You missed on 'Cuse, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, but your best possible point total is 154, which is higher than mine (152) or AP's (137). Purdue's loss really fucked AP, because he had them going to the title game. And I'm pretty much out because except for K-State I mostly have picks that are common to the rest of the group.
AP and Max have the highest possible point total at 160 apiece.

dang this is the best day in recent memory. new contract, new team, great chemistry, fabulous project with huge upside. colleague mentioned my name to the head of a very powerful organization that now wants to talk with me. got email telling me I am short-listed for a premier job in my field. i almost thought i'd come back to my hotel room and find a beautiful naked chick waiting in bed.
oh, and about NCAA, Libya, and whatever else, I haven't a clue what's going on. just outta the jungle.

when speaking off of a more or less public forum, yes. but even so, involved with academia and biology, broadly speaking.

So you are scared to give a job title on a public forum that is limited to about a dozen guys. does your shadow scared you to?

Sooo about the NCAA Tournament....
25/32 First Round - 25 points
10/16 Second Round - 20 points
Games last night were brutal for me. I lost 2 games I had teams in, including my tournament winner (Duke).
Someone post up how many points you get for each win by round, I want to compute my possible score, even though I think I'm toast =)
In other words, fill this in for me.
1st round - X points per win (assuming 1)
2nd round - X points per win (assuming 2)
Sweet 16 - X points per win
Elite 8 - X points per win
Final 4 - X points per win
Championship Game - X points

I'll try to do it this afternoon, Alz.
Duke can go to hell. How could they lose by 16 to a team that doesn't start a single senior?

I forgot there were even games on yesterday.

I have no idea, they went in up 6.
Things that suprise me, but STUN me when coupled with the fact that Arizona did this to DUKE.
1) Arizona spotted 55 points in the second half. This is college, that's impressive. Doing it against Duke? That's jaw-dropping.
2) Arizona shot 58% in the second half as a team.
3) Arizona outscored Duke by 22 points in the second half.
I don't know how far they will go, but that was a pretty amazing display.

It's too bad Derrick Williams played his way into the Top 5 of the draft. Oh well, they'll be able to savor last night.

There must have been an interesting dynamic at the scorer's table - the Duke scorekeeper is probably a grad student who got his bachelor's in quantum physics after three years, and the Arizona scorekeeper is a fifth year sophomore majoring in fungus remedies who needs to put his pencil down when he has to count past five.
"Soooo ... how hot does it have to get before you guys at Dook are allowed to have a wet t-shirt contest on campus?"

Can I safely assume that the level of enjoyment you had in watching Duke eliminated in the tournament was somewhat tempered by the fact that it was Arizona that did the deed?

As much as I loathe Duke, I don't think I can ever root for Arizona. The true test will be if Arizona ever plays Notre Dame in anything. That's my sports version of the Iran-Iraq war. The best outcome is one of them loses, and the other is so incapacitated by the fight it won't last much longer.

Kentucky's win last night wrapped up the title for Max:
Max 36-20 60 pts.
TK 36-20 56 pts.
Artie 36-20 56 pts
AP 35-21 53 pts.
Fors 33-23 50 pts.
Max still has three of his Final Four alive - UNC, Kansas and Florida
TK has Florida and Kansas
Artie has Kansas
AP is done
Fors has Kansas and Florida

Job title: let's see, uh . . . unemployed. "self-employed" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
Maybe it's not so much that I am scared as it is that you people who are fully employed with your job titles think of yourself as Mr. Fancy Pants, and don't realize that people scrounging out a living from one contract to the next don't have things like job titles, except as they appear in the current contract, and those change from contract to contract.
