Kentucky's win last night wrapped up the title for Max:

Max 36-20 60 pts.
TK 36-20 56 pts.
Artie 36-20 56 pts
AP 35-21 53 pts.
Fors 33-23 50 pts.

Max still has three of his Final Four alive - UNC, Kansas and Florida
TK has Florida and Kansas
Artie has Kansas
AP is done
Fors has Kansas and Florida

I'm not so sure about that, Artie.  I picked NC for the winner, while TK picked Kansas.  I wouldn't be surprised if TK can still pull this out if Kansas wins it, and perhaps through other scenarios where NC does not win it.

So you are scared to give a job title on a public forum that is limited to about a dozen guys.  does your shadow scared you to?

Job title:  let's see, uh . . . unemployed.  "self-employed" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Maybe it's not so much that I am scared as it is that you people who are fully employed with your job titles think of yourself as Mr. Fancy Pants, and don't realize that people scrounging out a living from one contract to the next don't have things like job titles, except as they appear in the current contract, and those change from contract to contract.

I sure you are employed in a general field.  It isnt that big of deal.. I was just wondering.

Don't be so sure.  Since returning to the USA in August 2008, I have been employed on a contract-by-contract basis in the general field of academia and biology, covering broad topics like wildlife, conservation, evolution, and ecology. That means I teach or conduct research on those topics, . . . but not on a permanent basis, and the job title changes with each contract.  The current contract is for private enterprise and includes a gag clause that I am confident does not include an exception for posts made on public internet forums, even under a pseudonym.  As I have implied before, these have been tough times for the Tuindoh family, and the current contract provides our first small window of breathing room since our return to the USA.

Correct. I had about five minutes before my fantasy draft and rushed through the update.

Actually, I was just having fun playing the role of "chagrined have-not".  I recall once on a different forum how I made an intellectual argument to rebut some ideological nonsense and another poster commented about my post, writing something like, "your fancy, teeth-in-your mouth ways".  I'm sure the post was intentional parody, but I have always gotten a kick out being considered fancy because I happen to have (or am assumed to have) all of my teeth!  Now, maybe AP can get a kick out of being considered "Mr. Fancy Pants" because he happens to have a job title.

Lightening strikes, Kansas is gone.  It's over.  Y'all can pop your checks in the mail anytime before Monday morning.

I do get called alot of things.  As far as what you do I was just looking for a field of work.  I think you are a scientist type person or something.  And dont get to bent out of shape about having to "scroung" around.  We eat deer meat, drink cheap beer, burnt wood to save of heating cost, I have wondered were my next check was coming from a couple times in my life and my salary is less then impressive.  Sometimes just getting by make you understand how little you really need.

and then i noticed you first asked that on another thread where i was commenting on the alarms on my work phone.  yeah, for the forest work I was doing i had to be up well before dawn, and then ready to go again by middle afternoon.  it's a crazy life, but the new team were commenting on it feels to see that it's 8 am and you've done a half day's work.

Re: NCAA tournament

Well my total? Terrible, like everyone elses I would venture.
25/32 (First Round)
10/16 (Second Round)
3/8 (Third Round)
0/4 (Final Four)
0/2 (Semi's)
0/1 (Final)

Whatever that's worth. I have nothing left.

We could always wager on how long it will take before Kentucky's appearance in this year's Final Four is vacated.

I see I'm in my usual place when it comes to picking the NCAA tournament.  Dead last, but laughing my ass off at the fact that Kansas got beat (again) by a double-digit seed.

Kentucky made it???  Although I'm not sure of the context, Bobby made a comment the other day that he had picked Kentucky to win the tournament.  It's a good thing I didn't let him make a bracket of his own.  I'm not sure how we could have lived down the shame of losing to a 10 year old.

The way the Final Four shakes out, either VCU or Butler will be in the championship game. So you'll be able to root for one of the underdogs against semi-evil UConn or really, really evil Vacated.

One way or the other it makes for a great story.  If Butler gets there, they make it back to the title game after losing their best player to the NBA.  Pretty impressive stuff.  If VCU makes it, I assume they become the first team to come from a play-in game to make it to the Finals.

Also, I would have to give a lot of credit to UConn if they can run the Big East tourney and then the NCAA tourney.  That's a pretty improbable 11 game run.

Why has nobody mentioned that this is Calipari's third first-time trip to the Final Four?

You'd cry too if you had a Final Four trip booked and instead have to spend next weekend in Kansas.

One of the subplots to this is that Calhoun and Coach Vacated HATE each other. Calhoun is a lot more of an angry guy than he's portrayed in the national media, and he's never gotten over Vacated swiping Marcus Camby from under his mug 15 years ago.

Interesting. How did Vacated convince Camby to come to UMass instead of UConn anyway?

You could take out the words "a Final Four trip booked and instead have" and that statement would still be accurate.

The academic reputation of UMass and the idyllic landscape of Amherst were undoubtedly factors in Camby's decision.
That and the jewelry, new car, hookers and $250,000 cash.
BTW, UConn ain't exactly Pepperdine. Storrs is in the middle of the woods, about five miles beyond the middle of nowhere. Connecticut itself is one of the most curiously diverse states in the country. There's Fairfield County, which is probably the most affluent county in the country, about a half-hour drive from Bridgeport, the most blighted city in New England and maybe the entire eastern seaboard, and anywhere inland is a whole lot of nothing, except for the two Indian casinos.

Not having ever been ...
Have I ever told you about my wife's sojourn into Kansas a few years ago? She was attending a conference in Kansas City with an equally geographically-challenged colleague from another museum in Boston.
They rent a car and follow signs out of the airport for "Kansas City" and end up on I-70, heading west. They're probably about 30 miles outside of Topeka when my wife calls me on her cell phone. I tell her to turn around and head back onto the highway and go to Missouri.
"But we're going to Kansas City!"
"Yes, dear. There are two of them. One is in Kansas and the other is in Missouri. The one you want is the one in Missouri."
"There are TWO Kansas Cities? Who knew THAT?"
"Pretty much everyone, dear."
I think if she hadn't called me, the two of them would have ended up in Utah.

Re: NCAA tournament

That's a good story, but it's not hard to believe that East Coast residents would confuse the two. They're in the same metropolitan area. I've seen Chicago people be surprised when they find out East St. Louis is in Illinois. Yeah.
