You know what really bothers me? Snow in April. Because snow means the 20-mile commute that begins from a home I can't afford in a town filled with arrogant, rude people ends 90 minutes later at an office where I have a job for which I receive slave wages and becomes more obsolete every time the calendar changes. My only solace is one day I'm going to show up here and find the front door locked, permanently. Then I'm going to get in my car and I'm not going to get out until I get to a place where the words "wind" and "chill" have never been used consecutively.

You're looking forward to life in Mexico?

What is bugging me today is having to have an off day after opening day.

Can I join in?

1. wasting a 7 inning, 2 ER effort from a starting pitcher.

2. blowing a 9th inning lead.

3. losing in extra innings . . . at home.

4. Doing all those things on the same day.

Re: 3/31 Gamecrap

It should be noted for those who were watching the FSMW broadcast that Jon Jay was at fault for that throw, and not the scrappalicious white guy who handled the ball like it was a live grenade then threw it into the upperdeck.

Let's pretend Brendan Ryan did the same thing. Al wouldn't have been able to hide his disgust.

I thought it was a bit of a reach for Hrabosky to criticize Jay for throwing a 2-hopper to Theriot instead of reaching him in the air. You'd think a major league shortstop would be able to adapt to a baseball hitting the ground occasionally.

I was thinking more like Costa Rica.

Re: 3/31 Gamecrap

The three-men-in-the-booth thing doesn't work for Hrabosky. Horton said more insightful things yesterday than Hrabosky will say all season.

"a 7 inning, 2 ER effort from a starting pitcher."

And it's ridiculous that the second run was earned. Ludwick got credit for a stolen base even though he was out by 10 feet.

I heard him say that and was going to back up the DVR and watch it again but I never did.  I find it hard to believe that the throw was at fault for the run.  All Theriot had to do was keep the ball in front of him.  Plus he got the error.

Re: 3/31 Gamecrap

I wonder at what point they'll finally start criticizing the team for their sloppy play. I give it late August when they're 10 games behind the Reds and Brewers.

Dan and Al will have to get pretty creative in figuring out new ways to deflect blame for whatever piss poor mistake Schuriot makes.

I just posted about the same thing and deleted it.  On this board you can keep from looking stupid from not reading ahead.  Unless of course you admitt to it like I just did.  But, Yeah, I agree the booth was bad.  The pregame was bad to.  I actually wanted to just watch the introductions but they first cut to Jim Hayes to interview Wainwright and then to commercial when Pujols was introduced.

The blame game.  Yesterday it might have been the young scrappy guy versus the veteran scrappy guy.  By mid-August, if this is still going on, my hunch is that someone will go back and revisit the "Brendan Ryan's clubhouse cancer was infecting the team, and Ryan Ludwick's spotty offense pushed it over the edge" hypothesis and look for larger reasons that the team played sloppy baseball for what will have been two seasons at that time.  Then the likely targets become:

1. Players TBN
2. Manager
3. GM

In most instances, it's manager, GM, then players. I haven't read the P-D, and I'm sure the players' mantra is "It's only one game ..." and Pujols will surely come around, but yesterday exposed their two most glaring deficiencies - defense in the middle of the infield and a bullpen littered with has-beens and never-wases. The third deficiency - the horribly diminished skills of the starting right fielder - didn't show on defense because Carpenter kept the ball out of right field yesterday.

Good news - Holliday taken in for appendectomy and he's out for 4-6 weeks

Re: 3/31 Gamecrap

Mo thinks it will take a week.

"We'll make a determination. It could be something like six or seven days, it could be more," Mozeliak said. "We don't know at this point. We certainly will know more later."

OK.  That does it.  From now on, November 1st, everyone with an appendix gets it taken out.
