Record pace.

Houston has managed to be 5 games out of first place, after playing only 5 games.

Milwaukee and St. Louis are chasing the perennial losers with a fervor few expected, but even their greatest achievements here have only landed them 3.5 games back, and they find themselves chasing the Astros. One would think this type of torrid pace cannot last. The Cardinals were 1 out away from winning a game before clutching defeat out of the gaping jaws of victory (Thank you Ryan Franklin!!), and if they do that, this isn't much of a chase.

As is stands Houston is still within sight, but we'll have to really dedicate ourselves to losing games if we want to catch them, they look like a team that is just bound to losing. There's surely no way that they finish a perfect season 0-162, but you really never know with Houston, you can't look at a game they play and say, "They will probably win that." So the Cardinals will need to make for themselves, and not wait for Houston to calm down.

We're on pace to finish 113.4 games out of first. This is a serious effort, but Houston is on pace to finish 162! This won't even be close if we don't get our shit together.

Re: Record pace.

As much as we're fretting about a 2-4 record, Red Sox fans are stepping off the ledges this morning, less than a week after the Boston Herald proclaimed the Sox "the Best Team Ever."
