Pujols left 5 guys on base and had a key error costing the Cardinals the game.  Call it the contract or just a slump, i dont care, Pujols has never played this bad.

I hate walking the bases loaded. A pitcher's mentality changes entirely with the bases loaded. Is Sanchez that much better of a hitter than Rowand that it's necessary to pitch around him?

Thank you.  Another Mozeliak fuck up, I'll wager.

By the end of this season, the rotation will be Carp, Garks, Lohse, and Westbrook and McClellan will be fighting for #4 and #5.

The whole FA signing of Westbrook will be viewed as an effort to justify the Ludwick for Westbrook "trade", which YOU, TK, snuffed out from the get-go was more of a salary dump than it was a legitimate move to make the playoffs.

I still disagree with that. They wouldn't have had a chance of making the playoffs rolling out Hawkesworth or Walters every fifth day, and that they didn't wasn't Westbrook's fault. He pitched pretty well. I'll agree with the notion that they signed Westbrook so it wouldn't look like they rented him for two months at the expense of Ludwick, but there weren't a lot of other options in their price range. Assuming Wainwright doesn't blow out his elbow, Westbrook would be a pretty darn good 4th starter in the NL Central.

None. It was a great play by Craig. They seemed destined to win the game at that point.

La Russa said his chances of playing this series are slim.

So that takes them to the 10th at least.  I dont think having 5 days of Holliday is worth putting the roster at 24 players for 10 days.

who would you have brought up???

Salas would have been nice or even Stavinowhater could have been usefull last night.

I agree 100%.  I had not watched the whole game and didnt know the Gaints lineup.  When they walked Sanchez I assumed the next batter was left handed.  It is easy to call it a mistake now but I thought it was dumb then. It is Freddie Fucking Sanchez.

An now that Wainwight is out for the year it is better then Walters, who was the Memphis opening day starter.

With 20/20 hindsight, the trade did not get us to the playoffs, and the Westbrook signing does not look like we received a noticeable hometown discount.  We could have gotten something decent for Ludwick had we waited until the offseason, and still picked up Westbrook for about that price, if we had wanted to.  Of course, I hope that Westbrook comes around, and that was an ill-advised rant on my part last night.

I am probably too hard on Mozeliak, but it is the nature of the business that when the day of reckoning comes, a person will be judged with 20/20 hindsight.  Look at what Jocketty suffered because of the Mulder trade.

Re: 4/8 Gamecrap

I doubt you've have been able to get nearly as much as you might believe for Ludwick. He's 32, making about $6M, and proving that when asked to be anything more than a complimentary piece, he can't deliver. San Diego was doing everything possible this off season to purge salary and didn't, or perhaps couldn't move Ludwick who may now be below the Mendoza line as a Padre.

He's 2-for-21.
It's amazing how bad he's been as a Padre.

and yet he was their only tradable chit.  doesn't speak very highly of the cards system, top to bottom.

Miller is supposedly off-limits. He allowed one unearned run and struck out nine in his Palm Beach debut.

From what I heard, the Dominican kid whose name has changed a couple of times may have supplanted Miller as the organization's top prospect. No knock on Miller, but the other kid apparently looked that good.

But your point is generally correct Max. The Cardinals system, at least at the higher levels, is pretty barren. Most of our top prospects are from the last 2 drafts.

Is there a first baseman who can replace Pujols next year, after he signs with the Cubs?

yes, but by inviting him here on a short term deal, he will fall in love with playing in st. louis and give us a home town discount.  pay attention, artie.
