after getting caught with another needle stuck in his arse

I just saw this. Think it was roids or coke? The story I read almost seemed like it was drugs not roids. If it was steroids that would mean he would be out for 100 games, right? If that were the case there is no point in him not retiring. The season would be 3/4 over before he was able to come back.

ESPN's latest story says it was PEDs and that he retired rather than face the 100 game suspension. It doesn't really matter. He was hard pressed to find a job this off-season anyway. I can't imagine there would be a long list of teams anxious to sign a 39 year old, two-time loser under the PED policy who was one step away from a lifetime ban.
He was probably there already, but add Manny's name to the list of players with 500+ HR who won't see the Hall of Fame without buying a ticket.

It's OK. I'm sure someone with Manny Ramirez's intelligence has a contingency plan for life after baseball. He can finally accept that Rhodes Scholarship he deferred coming out of high school.

It will be hard for him to return to baseball in a Sosaish manner. If he leaves baseball now then he would still have to deal with the drug charges if he wanted to come back. Maybe he can tour the beer leagues with Cansaco.

Life imitates art:
--“I’m shocked,†said Colorado’s Jason Giambi--
I believe mean to say, "I'm shocked, shocked!"

He says he's going to Spain with his father. He might never come back. I wouldn't. His name has become a punchline here, and he can live on the millions he made in baseball in anonymity over there.

Could be worse. I know people who rave about Barcelona.

It should help that he never really cared about baseball to start with.
