"On Wednesday, RHP Shelby Miller made his second start of the season. The Cardinals' top prospect struck out 11 in 5 2/3 innings for High-A Palm Beach. Through two starts this season, Miller is 0-1 despite a 1.69 ERA and 20 strikeouts against two walks in 10 2/3 innings."
By my count that's 32 outs, 20 of which have come by strikeout.
Mr. Miller could be in St. Louis as early as next September.

Shouldnt he be promoted soon? Doesnt sound like single A hitters are much of a match.

"At Low-A Quad Cities on Thursday, RHP Jordan Swagerty struck out nine in seven innings. Swagerty has made two starts this season and pitched through the sixth each time. He has 14 strikeouts, eight hits allowed and no walks through 13 innings."
Interesting. Spicoli was a closer in college. I wonder what they saw in him that made them try him as a starter. If the results continue to be that good ...

Not really on topic but I think Salas and Sanchez are welcome additions to the Cardinals bullpen. They are better then Augstien. Right now I would use Batista as the long man and those two as one inning situations. I would use Motte, Boggs, Salas and Sanchez in a setup by committee.

I saw Salas last night and thought he looked bad.
Boggs on the other hand has a lot of movement on his pitches, and has many looks, but his control seems questionable.
I agree with Batista for long relief. Games you plan on winning should look like Miller and Motte for the 7th and 8th, with F-f-f-frrrrranklin for the 9th (it almost hurts to say it, even if it is just in my head). On alternate days, and for games you hope to win, use Salas and Sanchez in the 7th and 8th.
It will be helpful if some nice surprises can come from the pen this year, like perhaps Boggs and Sanchez maturing into solid late inning/closer type guys.

There was nothing not to like about Sanchez's debut.
