The Reds are dirtbags ...

Let's not wonder too much why a guy making $425K would shoplift, but rather why a guy making $425K a year would opt to wear a shirt that costs $9.94.

a) because like the rest of america, he spent his 2011 salary back in about 2006 on gadgets, vacations, and eating out.

b) because with the money he's makin' now, he figures it is his right to no longer wear $1.29 color tag sale shirts from goodwill.

"he spent his 2011 salary back in about 2006 on gadgets"

He was at ASU in 2006, so his salary was about $100K less than it is now.

Re: The Reds are dirtbags ...

That story leaves out an important piece of information.  Not only is Leake making $425K this season, but he received a $2.27M signing bonus in 2009.

Mike Leake rhp

contract purchased by Cincinnati 4/11/10
drafted 2009 (1-8) (Arizona State)

BTW- Congrats Artie.  You've reached J.D. Drew status.  Should we expect a stint on the DL for every 5 posts?

Ironically enough, I strained a thumb hitting the space bar on my keyboard a few posts ago. Coincidence??? Or a clever ploy by AP to keep me off the board during this week's big series with the Nationals? Hmmm ....

just remember that if you accidentally bump a scab off, be sure to get plenty of bed rest.  that can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.

Artie, I have to be honest, this was one of the funniest things I've ever read.

"He was at ASU in 2006, so his salary was about $100K less than it is now."

Well played sir, well played.

PS. I got company box seats for the game tonight, anyone else going (preferrably those of you that don't want to punch me in the face!)

As a veteran of several nasty infections over the years, you're not telling me anything I don't already know, fella.
I'm day-to-day (but aren't we all?). Thumb is still throbbing a bit, but I'll tough it out.

I once had one on my knee that got red and all puffy, and when I accidentally bumped the scab off it oozed some pus.  So, my mom took me to the doctor for a tetanus shot and the doctor put a special band-aid on it.  It took almost two weeks to heal, and if you look at it in really strong sunlight you can still see a scar.  So, I wouldn't mess around with something like a scab.  Stay in bed, drink warm tea, and watch daytime TV until it heals up.

Re: The Reds are dirtbags ...

I had an ingrown toenail for 5 years once.  It was infected and swollen the whole time.  I would dig around on it and soak it salt water but nothing worked.  Finally my parents took me to the foot doctor and he cut it out.  He told me with it being infected that long it could have entered my blood and killed me.  The cool thing is that he burnt the nail out of the corner of my toe and it never grows.

Well, now you're talkin' about stuff that requires hospitalization and in-patient care, AP.

Nan, it was a 15 minute deal.  I wish it would have been done about 4 years earlier though.

That's just crazy talk, man.  Listen to your inner JD Drew and go for a disability pension for that one.

I was in grade school and early high school when this was going on.  After basketball games the toe area of my sock would be blood soaked.  Romoving the sock that was stuck to the raw puss fill flesh swollen around my toe was the worst.  My toe still doesnt look right.
